New Value Solutions, a national IT consulting company, is seeking a Network Security Consultant to provide senior-level network security expertise for a large enterprise environment. The consultant will join an Information Security Operations team and will be responsible for the governance, architecture, design, and oversight of enterprise network security controls across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.
The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on experience with Cisco security technologies, enterprise firewall and segmentation strategies, and Azure network security. This role combines technical security expertise with architecture and governance responsibilities, including participation in architecture reviews, oversight of firewall and remote access controls, incident response, vulnerability management, and security design. The position can be performed remotely within Canada, although the ability to work from Regina, Saskatchewan on a regular basis where feasible is considered an asset.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, manage, and provide governance oversight for enterprise network security controls.
- Provide senior subject matter expertise across Cisco security technologies, including Firepower Threat Defense (FTD), Firepower Management Center (FMC), Cisco Umbrella/OpenDNS, Web Security Appliances (WSA), and Cisco Secure Malware Analytics.
- Provide security oversight for VPN and remote access solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise security standards and zero trust principles.
- Review and tune IPS/IDS signatures, firewall rules, traffic inspection policies, and other network security controls.
- Participate in Architecture Review Board processes and assess network and application architectures for compliance with security standards, zoning models,
and segmentation requirements.
- Review firewall changes and provide guidance on network segmentation and zone-based security controls.
- Design and secure hybrid environments integrating on-premises infrastructure with Microsoft Azure.
- Provide expertise with Azure networking and security controls, including VNets, subnets, NSGs, Azure Firewall, Application Gateway, IAM, PAM, Conditional Access, and RBAC.
- Conduct traffic analysis and threat investigations using network telemetry, packet capture, and security analytics tools.
- Lead or support network security incident response, including containment, root cause analysis, and remediation.
- Identify network security vulnerabilities, configuration weaknesses, and risks and recommend appropriate remediation.
- Support penetration testing, vulnerability management, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities.
- Review security considerations associated with F5 load balancing and VMware Cloud Foundation environments.
- Evaluate emerging network security technologies, including security automation, orchestration, and AI/ML-based threat detection.
- Develop and maintain network security architecture, standards, designs, and operational documentation.
- Act as a trusted security advisor to infrastructure, architecture, security, and other cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in network security.
- Extensive experience designing, implementing, and governing network security within large enterprise environments.
- Solid hands-on expertise with Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) and Cisco Firepower Management Center (FMC).
- Experience with Cisco network security technologies such as Umbrella/OpenDNS, WSA, Secure Malware Analytics, VPN, IPS/IDS, and related controls.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise firewall architecture, network zoning, segmentation, remote access security, and zero trust principles.
- Experience reviewing network and application architectures and providing security architecture and design guidance.
- Strong experience securing hybrid environments incorporating on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft Azure.
- Knowledge of Azure networking and security technologies including VNets, NSGs, Azure Firewall, Application Gateway, IAM/PAM, Conditional Access, and RBAC.
- Experience with network security incident response, vulnerability management, threat analysis, and penetration testing.
- Experience with packet capture, network telemetry, and security analytics tools.
- Understanding of F5 load balancing technologies and traffic flows.
- Knowledge of VMware Cloud Foundation or comparable virtualized networking and security environments is an asset.
- Experience contributing to network security disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to operate as a senior technical advisor.
