Set amid sandstone canyons, rolling grasslands and evergreen hillsides, Kamloops (https://tinyurl.com/IHKamloops) is a city of about 100,000 with an active, outdoors oriented character. Known as the Tournament Capital of Canada, it has good places to eat, independent shops and a range of sports venues. With more than 100 lakes nearby and over 15 provincial parks within an hour’s drive, paddling, hiking, cycling and camping are right on your doorstep.

In winter, residents make the most of skiing and snowboarding at Sun Peaks, just a short drive from the city. With over 2,000 hours of sunshine annually, Kamloops offers an excellent balance between life inside and outside the hospital.

Practice Description

We are a collegial team with a focus on continuous practice improvement and collaboration. This is an excellent chance for a stroke neurologist looking to take part in a satisfying full-spectrum neurology practice, with a strong focus on acute stroke care, TIA/stroke clinic, and regional stroke pathway development.

Our inpatient care covers general neurology and acute stroke, including thrombolysis. You will provide care in the Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Tower, which houses a multidisciplinary combined stroke/rehabilitation unit. Here, we collaborate closely with physiatry, hospitalist, and internal medicine teams, including a dedicated unit MRP hospitalist. We also have strong ties with our regional colleagues at Kelowna General Hospital and are working to develop regional subspecialty care pathways.

Outpatient neurology clinics take place in the Clinical Services Building. Here, you will help provide care through our TIA/stroke clinic, which runs five days a week and is supported by a full-time RN and booking clerk. We are also expanding our outpatient services, with plans to add a rapid access neurology clinic as well as further supports for subspecialty neurology clinics.

you can be actively involved with the UBC clerkship and residency programs. We have on-site medical students, family medicine residents, internal medicine residents, as well as rotating residents in psychiatry and neurology. Leadership development opportunities are available through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program.

Locum opportunities are available during the recruitment period, An income guarantee (IG) of $15,000 per 7-day period is available until December 31, 2026. The IG is inclusive of all income sources, including MOCAP. Our current locum exception policy covers reasonable travel and accommodation costs, allowing you to focus on providing patient care. To be considered for a locum, you must already be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 273-bed facility and the primary referral centre for nearly 250,000 people in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As the region’s leading tertiary referral hospital and Level 1 Trauma Centre, RIH provides high-acuity, specialized care.

In recent years, RIH has undergone a $417-million expansion, enhancing mental health, surgical, post-anesthetic recovery, pediatric, and emergency services. A $359-million cancer centre will expand cancer care by 2028.

Comprehensive services include internal medicine, OB/GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, pathology, psychiatry, pediatrics, anesthesia, radiology, urology, and family practice inpatient care.

Compensation

Compensation Type Fee-for-Service Estimated Remuneration Annual billings of $350,000–$500,000 can be expected for a full-time commitment, based on a combination of hospital-based and community practice. Actual income will vary depending on clinical activity and call participation.

Benefits and Incentives

Relocation Funding Available $9,000 for moves within BC, 12,000 for moves within Canada, and 15,000 for those relocating from outside Canada, subject to maximum amounts and eligible receipts.
