The expected base salary range for this position, when hired into our Toronto location, is CAD $110000 - $150000 per year. For positions based in other jurisdictions, compensation will be determined in alignment with local regulations, market benchmarks, and internal compensation frameworks.The actual salary will vary depending on a number of factors, including job location, experience, qualifications, education/training, skills, market conditions, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
In addition to base salary, eligible employees may participate in our annual incentive program, payment under which is at the discretion of PartnerRe and subject to individual and company performance. This is a global technical leadership role focused on actuarial platforms used across North America, Europe, and APAC, with AXIS as the primary system in scope.
Working closely with the Application Owner and acting at the intersection of business, vendor, Operations, Security, and Cloud Infrastructure, the role drives technical clarity, identifies improvement opportunities,
and supports the implementation of sustainable platform solutions. You will act as the senior technical expert for our actuarial platform landscape, with AXIS as the primary system in scope and additional platforms likely to fall within remit as the environment evolves. The purpose of this role is to bring deep technical understanding, strong judgment, and a clear challenge function to the platform landscape.
You will act as the technical expert for the platform, combining deep application knowledge with robust expertise in Azure and infrastructure design, including compute, VM scale sets, and storage optimization. You will continuously build and apply this combined expertise to assess the current setup, identify weaknesses, and define and support the implementation of improvements. Your focus is on technical clarity and platform quality: identifying inefficiencies and risks, improving configuration and setup, clarifying responsibilities where needed, and maintaining accurate technical documentation.
You will also oversee key aspects such as compute capacity, storage usage, configuration quality, and operational efficiency across all regions (APAC, EU, and NA). Establish and maintain high-quality technical documentation across the platform landscape, including system design, configuration, infrastructure dependencies, operational processes, technical decisions, ownership boundaries, and key changes, to ensure transparency, supportability, and long-term sustainability. Qualification and Work Experience Technical Skills Strong understanding of cloud environments, with solid knowledge of Azure infrastructure concepts such as compute, VM scale sets, networking basics, and efficient storage design.
Ability to work effectively with Cloud Infrastructure and Operations teams to assess resource usage (CPU, memory, storage), and guide monitoring, scaling, and optimization decisions in line with platform requirements. Practical technical skills enabling hands-on assessment and targeted improvements,
including working knowledge of SQL, scripting (e.g., Python or PowerShell), and data handling patterns. Ability to analyze configurations, automate repetitive tasks where needed, and support implementation of improvements without acting as a full-time developer.
Capable of identifying weak points, inefficiencies, and risks, and driving structured improvements in collaboration with relevant teams (Operations, Security, Cloud, Vendor). risk, compliance, data protection, third-party/vendor management), with the ability to support technical assessments, provide input to due diligence activities, and help ensure timely and well-informed decisions. You bring clarity to complex and fragmented environments, using sound technical judgment to break down issues, document them clearly, and drive them through to resolution. You communicate effectively across a wide range of stakeholders and work comfortably at the center of the ecosystem, building strong relationships with business stakeholders, Operations, Security, Cloud Infrastructure, and vendors.
You combine analytical thinking with a hands-on, pragmatic mindset, and are motivated to build deep understanding of the platform while applying your broader technical expertise to improve how it is set up and run. You place a strong emphasis on high-quality technical documentation, ensuring that key decisions, system designs, configurations, and processes are clearly captured, structured, and kept up to date to support transparency, maintainability, and long-term sustainability.
