Process Engineer/Specialist
We are a North American Leader in the Fabrication sectors with operations across Canada, and the
USA. We are a fully-integrated supplier of manufacturing and engineering services providing steel components and complex, high value-added assemblies for the agricultural, construction, mining,
energy, heavy truck and industrial sectors.
The Process Engineer/Specialist is responsible for analyzing, developing, and optimizing operational processes to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and cost performance. Works cross-functionally to support continuous improvement, troubleshoot process issues, and ensure compliance with standards and best practices. The Process Engineer/Specialist will report to the Engineering Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
New Product Introduction & Process Launch
- Support new product introduction by developing, validating, and transitioning manufacturing processes into full-scale production.
Manufacturing Process Definition & Control
- Define, document, and maintain manufacturing processes, procedures, routings, and tooling to meet product and customer specifications.
- Apply statistical methods and data analysis to establish process standards, quality objectives, and production requirements.
Engineering & Production Documentation
- Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, routings, and process instructions aligned to production requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and improve SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation to ensure consistent and repeatable production.
Tooling & Asset Management
- Maintain, modify, and manage production tooling to ensure product quality, capability, and conformance to specifications.
- Manage internal ERP tooling records and customer tooling databases to ensure accurate and current documentation.
Process Optimization & Resource Utilization
- Analyze and optimize workforce utilization, workflow, space requirements,
and equipment layout within assigned process areas.
Production Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide day-to-day process support and troubleshooting to maximize yield, reliability, and on-grade product output.
- Investigate process deviations, non-conformances, and customer complaints; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Develop and evaluate alternate processing methods to improve quality, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
- Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, and continuous improvement tools to optimize fabrication and assembly processes.
- Lead area-level process improvement initiatives and support incremental capital and process improvement projects.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with engineering, production, quality, and management teams to implement product changes and process improvements.
Equipment Installation & Validation
- Support installation, commissioning, and validation of equipment to ensure processes perform to specification.
Training & Technical Support
- Train production personnel on new or revised processes and serve as a technical resource on the shop floor.
Quality, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company operational procedures, quality systems, and environmental standards (e.g., IATF, ISO 14001).
- Follow and comply with all Operational Procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee
Handbook, Quality, and Environmental programs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required or 5+ years relevant experience accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Experience in metal fabrication and / or manufacturing environment is an asset.
- In depth professional knowledge and expertise regarding metal-cutting operations, grinding and tooling manufacturing.
- Strong skills in manufacturing and processing engineering with knowledge of CNC machining,
metal forming and welding.
- Extensive knowledge of general machining practices.
- Ability to specify processes to manufacture components, correct machining problems by tooling,
gauging, machining or fixturing.
- Ability to estimate machining cycle, perform method analysis; plan, project and perform project analysis.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Creo and ERP system functionality will be an asset.
- Robust working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite also required.
Salary Transparency
$70,000-$85,000 annually The compensation for this role is reflective of the successful candidates, skills, abilities, education, market analysis and internal equity and other role specific considerations.
