The Industry Partnership & Commercialization (IP&C;) office of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) champions the development and commercialization of SickKids innovations. To achieve this goal, we foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, we forge commercial partnerships and we help to build start-up companies.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, Industry Partnerships & Commercialization, the Communications & Events Coordinator plays a key role in advancing awareness, engagement, and participation in SickKids initiative around innovation and commercialization through strategic communications, storytelling, digital content, educational programming, event management, and community engagement. This includes working closely with the IP&C; Operations Manager and the hospital's Communications & Public Affairs team, to ensure that all events and communication efforts align with organizational messaging and integrated campaigns.
IP&C; is looking for an experienced Communications & Events Coordinator with strong communication and collaboration skills, solid organizational skills, and proven event planning experience. The successful candidate is also a strong storyteller who can translate complex scientific, technical, and commercialization concepts into accessible and compelling content that supports departmental priorities and organizational objectives.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
Develop and execute integrated communications & event plans/calendars to support departmental priorities, strategic initiatives, educational programming, funding competitions, and commercialization activities.
Communications
- Coordinate the maintenance of an ongoing content calendar in support of the department's activities and goals
- Develop compelling stories, profiles, and promotional content that showcase innovation, commercialization achievements, partnerships, funding initiatives, and research impact
- Write and edit content for a variety of channels and formats including newsletters, intranet stories, website content, social media, email campaigns, presentations, reports, speaking notes, and promotional materials
- Support brand stewardship through the development and use of templates, graphic assets, and communications resources aligned with IP&C; sub-brand standard and SickKids identity
- Manage and maintain the department's digital presence, ensuring website and online content remain current, accessible, and aligned with organizational priorities
- Support the promotion and maintenance of the SickKids technology portfolio and related innovation marketing initiatives
- Collaborate closely with Communications & Public Affairs, researchers, clinicians, institutional leaders, industry partners, and external organizations to support communications and engagement initiatives
- Track and report on communications performance metrics to assess effectiveness, support decision-making, and inform continuous improvement
Events Management
- Manage seminars and special events such as the Invention to Innovation Education Series, Proof of Principle Grant Competition, Technology Advancement Program, and SickKids Innovation Showcase
- Pre-event planning, event oversight, post-event reporting and budget management for each event
- Partner with internal partners to define event objectives, schedules, required resources and measures of success for all events
- Coordinate all relevant vendor and internal resources on-site to ensure flawless execution of events
- Collaborate with the senior management team to acquire event sponsorship
- Support event measurement and evaluation through attendance tracking, feedback collection, and performance reporting
Here's What You'll Need
- Undergraduate degree/college certificate in business, marketing, communications, event management; or any equivalent combination of experience and training
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience and training in communications, special events planning
- Background in health research/science is an asset
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, along with the ability to write compelling content to leverage internally and externally
- Experience in social media communications, development, execution, and reporting
- Confident and positive, high-energy and capable of easily interacting with senior management and top researchers
- High level of professionalism and ability to manage smooth event logistics
- Solid and effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills; the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines along with accuracy, attention to detail and flexible to change
- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
- Experience with Office 365, Sharepoint Sites, Wordpress, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, analytics tools,
and content management platforms is considered an asset
