Job Title: Project Manager – Wastewater Plant Renovations and Improvements This role focuses on leading large-scale wastewater treatment plant renovation and improvement projects, typically ranging from $40 million to $100 million, across multiple sites in the Greater Toronto Area.

The Project

Manager oversees all phases of construction delivery for water and wastewater projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with municipal requirements and contract specifications.

Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end delivery of wastewater and water treatment plant renovation and improvement projects valued at $50 million and above. Plan, organize, and manage project scope, schedule, budget, and resources for multiple projects across the Greater Toronto Area. Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including municipalities, internal teams, subcontractors, and consultants.

Manage subcontractors on site, including selection, coordination, performance oversight, and adherence to contractual obligations.

Oversee day-to-day construction activities, ensuring work is executed according to design, specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. Administer contracts, including preparing, reviewing, and processing change orders, RFIs, and other project documentation. Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement, implementing corrective actions as needed.

Coordinate with municipal representatives and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with applicable codes, permits, and regulations. Review project drawings, specifications, and technical documents to anticipate construction challenges and propose practical solutions.

Prepare and present project reports, updates, and forecasts to internal stakeholders and clients, including cost and schedule performance. Support project scheduling and sequencing of work to optimize productivity and minimize disruption to existing plant operations. Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on site, ensuring all team members and subcontractors follow safety policies and procedures.

Travel to project sites across the GTA, including locations such as Burlington and Caledon, to oversee construction activities and attend meetings as required. Essential Skills Minimum 5 years of experience as a Project Manager leading construction projects of $50 million or more. Proven experience working for a general contractor on water and wastewater treatment plant projects. Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors effectively on large, complex construction sites.

Strong experience in project management for construction, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination. Hands-on experience working with and alongside municipalities on infrastructure projects. Proficiency in administering construction contracts, including managing change orders and RFIs.

Ability to travel regularly to project sites across the Greater Toronto Area and commute to Mississauga as needed. Solid understanding of construction processes, standards, and best practices in the water/wastewater sector.

Solid communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder management. Proven organizational and problem-solving skills in fast-paced project environments.

Qualifications PMP certification is an asset. Trades experience is acceptable, provided the candidate has substantial and relevant project management experience.

Experience working on niche water and wastewater projects is highly beneficial. Ability to build strong relationships with municipal representatives and other external stakeholders.

Capability to handle multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities. Interest in long-term career growth within large, complex infrastructure projects.

Work Environment

This position supports multiple wastewater and water treatment projects across the Greater Toronto Area, with regular travel to sites such as Burlington, Caledon, and other locations, as well as commuting to Mississauga. The work model is hybrid and depends on project needs, typically involving approximately three days in the office or on site and two days working from home. At certain stages of a project, the role may require being on site up to five days per week or, conversely, working from home up to five days per week.

The workplace is that of a large, established general contractor with a strong presence in the water/wastewater sector and a focus on complex, technically challenging projects. Team members collaborate closely across offices and project sites, using standard construction project management tools and processes. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $170000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
