Job Title:

Food Quality Inspector

Department: Quality Assurance / Operations

Reports To: Warehouse Manager

Type: Full-time, On-site

Job SummaryThe Food Quality Inspector ensures all incoming and outgoing fresh fruits and vegetables meet strict company standards, USDA/CFIA regulations, and customer specifications. This role operates directly in our wholesale warehouse, conducting physical inspections, monitoring storage conditions, and maintaining food safety documentation.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Inspection & Grading

- Inspect incoming shipments for freshness, maturity, size, weight, and defects.
- Grade produce quality based on regulatory standards and internal specifications.
- Evaluate outgoing orders to ensure correct product allocation and quality before dispatch.
- Identify and document pest damage, decay, bruising, and temperature abuse.

Food Safety & Compliance

- Monitor warehouse temperatures and humidity levels in cold storage zones.
- Enforce sanitation protocols across handling areas, equipment, and storage bays.
- Maintain traceability logs and quality control reports accurately in the inventory system.
- Assist with audits related to food safety programs (e.g., GAP, GMP, SQF, or HACCP).

Inventory & Vendor Management





- Issue rejection notices for shipments failing to meet quality or safety standards.
- Provide detailed reports including photographic evidence to procurement and vendor relations.
- Monitor shelf-life of existing inventory and flag ripening items for immediate rotation.

Qualifications & SkillsRequired

- Experience: 1–3 years of quality control experience in produce, agriculture, or food distribution.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of fresh produce varieties, defects, and ripening processes.
- Physical Ability: Capacity to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold warehouse environments (0°C to 10°C / 32°F to 50°F).
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional vision and sensory skills to detect subtle color, texture, and odor variances.

Preferred

- Produce grading certifications/experience.
- Tech Skills: Experience using digital pulp thermometers, refractometers, and warehouse management software (WMS).
- knowledge and experience using warehouse ride equipment an asset

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
