About the Role:
Global News has an exciting opportunity for a part-time, temporary contract for a Radio News Anchor based in Winnipeg. Reporting to the Manager, News and Content and working closely with the Radio News Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for news anchoring and reporting duties on 680 CJOB. This position will also support television and digital platforms as needed. This is a Group Radio position under the current collective agreement.
You will contribute by:
- Live anchoring and reporting of news, sports, and community events on 680 CJOB.
- Pitching, writing, and producing content with multiple deadlines for different platforms.
- Telling well-written, people-centered stories with strong audio.
- Regularly communicating story ideas and information with colleagues on all platforms.
- Developing and maintaining news contacts for interviews and information.
- Understanding and adhering to Global News’ Journalistic Principles and Practices.
- Being available to work weekdays, evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
- Performing other duties as required.
Skills and experience you bring:
- Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field.
- Experience working in a radio newsroom setting is an asset.
- Familiarity with Burli is an asset.
- Ability to manage time effectively to meet strict and often short daily deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Strong writing, presentation, and storytelling skills, with an understanding of how to write for different platforms.
- Passion for journalism and Canadian affairs. You wake up in the middle of the night with clever ideas.
- A positive attitude and a desire to collaborate in a multiplatform newsroom.
- Motivated, self-starter, independent, results-oriented, and professional.
- Ability to go live from the field with strong presentation skills and clarity.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical problems.
- Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows.
