Position Summary:

In this role you will be responsible for inspecting and repairing railcars to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Railcar repairs may include welding, replacing, straightening, and fabricating and painting components.

Duties:

· Examines railcar components for structural defects and obstructions.

· Operate handheld scanner.

· Turns hand wheel to test brakes and ascertain that they are in operating condition.

· Inspects and tests air hoses for leakage.

· Inspects wheel trucks for dragging equipment.

· Prepares reports on findings.

· Remove and replace couplers, airline gaskets, hoses, or other components.

· Paint cars and components.

· Inspect, repair, or replace steel sections.

· Straighten or fabricate, then replace steel parts.

· Operate acetylene torches for cutting and/or shaping metals parts and operate electrical and gas welding equipment.

· Operate forklifts, Scissor Lifts, and other shop equipment.

· Working at heights training

· Working in confined space

· Operate vehicles, pick-up trucks to transport workers.

· Re-rail cars and locomotive by using re-railing equipment.

· Tag cars in need of immediate repairs.

· Put up Blue Flags at both ends of a track and lock the switches with private locks.

· Perform other related duties as required.





Responsibilities & Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or equivalent required, college/university preferred.

· Welding certificate is preferred.

· Previous experience in rail car repairs an asset.

· Ability to set priorities, establish and execute a plan of action.

· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.

· Positive hearing and vision / Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude

· Pass pre-employment medical / Criminal Background Check

Working Conditions:

· Working in a high-risk environment, exposure to heavy moving equipment.

· Work takes place outdoors so workers may be exposed to various weather conditions.

· Work may involve bending and lifting up to 50lbs on a regular basis.

· Ability to work flexible hours for extended periods of time.

· Physically able to complete all tasks as assigned including repetitive movements through the duration of a shift.

· Overtime and weekend work availability required.

· Must work using all required PPE.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $23.72-$26.12 per hour
