Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE) are responsible for providing quality early education from infancy to age four. Educators will deliver a play based, living curriculum in a protected, comfortable homelike environment. The position reports to the Program Supervisor and/or the Director, and maintains positive, respectful working relationships with all centre staff and community partners.
Placement of employees can be in various aged programs, which are licensed through the Ministry of Education and therefore subject to the rules and regulations as stipulated in the Child Care and Early Years Act (2014).
· Educators will design inclusive learning activities that follow the MZELC Curriculum, ensuring that all areas of development are addressed on a daily basis.
· Maintain accurate records regarding each child’s daily activities with daily/weekly journals and weekly documentation.
· Always liaise with parents/guardians and community contacts in a professional manner.
· Demonstrate consistent practice of clean culture, ensuring Centre and classrooms are clean, organized and professional looking at all times. All areas of the classroom must be child ready at all times – all centers are available to children throughout the day.
· Implement and practice the MZLEC Program Statement on a daily basis.
· Utilize age-appropriate child coaching and mentoring techniques in all interactions with the children
· Ensure all activities the ECE performs are in accordance with the program policies and procedures and regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act (2014).
· Ensure own performance is in compliance with the policies and procedures of MZELC, including Health and Safety, Child Protection and Risk Management.
· Follow the Public Health and Fire Regulations/Requirements.
· Educators will be required to lift up to 60 lbs. (children and/or activity equipment or room set up) at various times within a day. Medical clearance may be required to support this requirement.
· Primarily inside work within the Centre, however, educators are required to participate and supervise children daily in the outdoor classroom.
· Ability to foster a positive social and educational environment is paramount
· Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent- qualifications from an accredited college or university, combined with a minimum of 1 year of related experience within a child care environment.
· Current member of the College of Early Childhood Educators
· Post secondary education, in addition to the Early Childhood Education designation, is considered an asset
· Up-to-date immunizations required by Public Health and Ministry of Education
· Legally entitled to work in Canada
· Valid Standard First Aid certification including infant and child CPR issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board
· Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Position Screen is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers.
· Excellent communication skills using English language, both written and verbal. Secondary language is considered an asset.
· Attendance and participation in staff meetings and training sessions.
· May be required to provide supervision and training to new staff and students/volunteers placed within the centre and prepare the necessary monitoring reports.
- Observe children for possible areas of concern and discuss solutions or progress with parents/guardians and staff members.
· Adheres to established MZELC policies and procedures in the care and supervision of children. · Responsible for ensuring accurate data/information is maintained for each child.
· Manages own performance and activities to ensure compliance with MZELC Policy and Procedure, Health Unit the Child Care and Early Years Act.
Pay: $25.86-$29.14 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
