Your Role
We are seeking a dedicated and patient-focused Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to join our Home Oxygen and Sleep/Respiratory Care team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the assessment, set up, education, monitoring, and ongoing management of patients requiring home oxygen therapy, BiPAP therapy, and other respiratory devices. This role requires strong clinical skills, exceptional customer service, and the ability to work independently in community and home-care settings.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Conduct comprehensive respiratory assessments for patients using oxygen therapy, BiPAP or other respiratory support equipment
- Initiate, set up, and monitor oxygen and non-invasive ventilation therapies in accordance with physician prescriptions and clinical best practices
- Educate patients,
caregivers, and family members on the proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of respiratory equipment
- Perform follow-up assessments to evaluate therapy effectiveness, compliance, and patient outcomes
- Review oximetry, therapeutic data downloads, and clinical reports to support treatment optimization
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care
- Identify and escalate changes in patient condition requiring medical intervention
- Ensure funding requirements are met if patients require ongoing therapy
- Maintain patient records and ensure data is properly documented in the healthcare system
- Stay updated on the latest oxygen and BiPAP technologies
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy and successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care examination
- Current or eligible for membership with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA) Respiratory Therapists and the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT)
- Current HCP-CPR certification from the Heart & Stroke Foundation
- Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) is preferred
- Minimum of one year’s recent related to oxygen and BPAP therapy preferred
- Proficient in using pulmonary function testing equipment
- Knowledge of respiratory diseases and treatments
- Basic life support (BLS)
certification
- Understanding of medical terminology and respiratory physiology
- Technical proficiency with medical equipment
- Demonstrated ability to assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position (physical stamina to stand for extended periods and assist patients) and ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Ability to define problems, gather data, organize facts, and make valid conclusions
- High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to follow detailed protocols and procedures
- Excellent time management and prioritizing skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) when interacting with professionals or patients
- This role will require traveling to different locations
