Position Overview

Crossroad Music is looking for a dependable, customer-focused Sales & Online Order Associate to join our team.

This position combines traditional retail sales with the day-to-day processing of online orders. Knowledge of guitars, amplifiers, drums, recording equipment, or other musical instruments is an asset, but a strong work ethic, reliability, willingness to learn, and excellent customer service skills are equally important.

- Assist customers in selecting musical instruments, accessories, and related products.
- Learn Crossroad Music's products, brands, promotions, and store policies.
- Answer customer questions in person, by telephone, and through online communication.
- Process purchases accurately using the point-of-sale system.
- Handle cash, debit, credit card, and other approved payment methods.
- Recommend appropriate products and accessories based on customer needs.
- Maintain a professional and helpful approach without using high-pressure sales tactics.

Online Orders & E-Commerce

- Review incoming online orders throughout the workday.
- Locate and verify merchandise for online purchases.
- Confirm products are correct and in suitable condition before shipment.
- Accurately pick, pack, label, and prepare orders for shipping.
- Generate and apply shipping labels.
- Update order status and ensure orders are processed promptly.

- Communicate with customers when clarification or additional information is required.
- Help prevent shipping errors by verifying customer, product, quantity, and shipping information before orders leave the store.
- Assist with basic online inventory and product information when required.

Inventory & Merchandising

- Receive and organize incoming merchandise.
- Stock shelves, displays, and product areas.
- Ensure products are properly priced and displayed.
- Help maintain accurate inventory.
- Report inventory discrepancies, damaged products, or low-stock items to management.
- Keep guitars, amplifiers, accessories, and other merchandise organized and presentable.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts.

General Store Operations

- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional sales floor.
- Keep counters, displays, shipping areas, and workspaces clean.
- Answer telephone calls and customer inquiries.
- Follow opening, closing, cash-handling, security, and loss-prevention procedures.
- Assist other employees during busy periods.
- Perform other reasonable duties related to the operation of Crossroad Music as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required

- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Comfortable working with computers and online systems.
- Ability to accurately process transactions and orders.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently when required.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.

- Willingness to learn about musical instruments and equipment.
- Ability to safely lift and move merchandise such as guitars, amplifiers, boxes, and other music equipment.

Preferred

- Previous retail, sales, customer service, or e-commerce experience.
- Experience processing, packing, or shipping online orders.
- Familiarity with Square POS, Square Online, or similar retail/e-commerce systems.
- Knowledge of guitars, amplifiers, drums, keyboards, PA equipment, recording equipment, or musical accessories.
- Previous experience working in a music store is an asset but is not required.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Shows up reliably and on time.
- Takes initiative instead of waiting to be told what needs to be done.
- Treats customers professionally and respectfully.
- Pays close attention to details when handling money and online orders.
- Is comfortable learning new products and technology.
- Keeps their work area organized.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
- Takes responsibility for their work and follows through on assigned tasks.
- Has a genuine interest in music, musical instruments, or retail sales.

Performance Expectations Employees are expected to provide excellent customer service while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. Particular attention must be given to online order accuracy, including verifying the correct product, quantity, customer information, packaging, and shipping information before an order is completed.

The position requires a balance of sales ability, customer service, organization, attention to detail, and general responsibility for helping keep Crossroad Music operating efficiently.
