ROLE AND OBJECTIVES:

The Senior Carpenter is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, installation, and finishing of wood-based building components within Kalesnikoff modular and panelized construction operations. Working under the direction of the Fabrication Supervisor or Panel Line Supervisor, this role applies advanced carpentry expertise to support all phases of construction, from structural assembly to finishing, while providing mentorship, technical guidance, and day-to-day work coordination to team members.

The Senior Carpenter supports panelized and modular production using engineered wood products such as CLT, glulam, light-frame systems, and modular building assemblies. Through strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity, this role serves as a key technical resource and contributes to efficient, high-quality project delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Finishing Carpentry, Cabinetry & Installation (Modular)

- Perform interior and exterior finishing carpentry within modular building units.
- Install trim, baseboards, casings, moldings, and architectural details to specification.
- Install interior and exterior doors, windows, and associated hardware.
- Install cabinetry, casework, countertops, and built-in components, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and finish.
- Complete flooring installation and finishing, including laminate, vinyl plank, hardwood, or other specified systems.
- Perform siding installation and exterior finishing work on modular units as required.
- Install wall panels, ceilings, access panels, and finish materials in accordance with drawings and finish schedules.
- Complete punch-list items, adjustments, repairs, and rework to address quality or fit issues prior to final inspection.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to carpenters and apprentices, supporting skill development and adherence to quality standards.
- Assist with the coordination and prioritization of finishing activities to support production schedules and workflow efficiency.
- Support onboarding and training of new team members on finishing carpentry methods, tools, materials, and quality expectations.
- Identify and proactively resolve finishing, fit, or installation issues, escalating complex concerns to the Supervisor as required.
- Promote best practices, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement within modular finishing operations.

Structural, Panel & Modular Carpentry

- Interpret and work from shop drawings, blueprints, manufacturing specifications, and work instructions.
- Perform layout, fabrication, and assembly of structural wood components and building systems.
- Rig, lift, and position CLT panels, glulam beams, light frame walls, and other large timber components using cranes, forklifts, and approved lifting devices.
- Install structural connectors, timber fasteners, bolts, and hardware systems.
- Support panelized and modular construction activities including framing, wall, and floor assemblies, and building envelope components.
- Install insulation, membranes, and related assemblies as required.
- Operate hand and power tools including drills, saws, routers, and specialty carpentry equipment.
- Verify accuracy, alignment, plumb,



and level of assemblies using appropriate measuring tools.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on carpentry methods, materials, equipment, and installation techniques.
- Assist with coordinating daily work activities and task priorities to support production schedules and workflow efficiency.
- Support the onboarding and training of new carpenters, apprentices, and production team members.
- Identify and troubleshoot construction, assembly, and fit-up issues, recommending practical solutions and escalating concerns as required.
- Promote secure work practices, quality workmanship, and adherence to manufacturing standards and procedures.
- Serve as a technical resource for complex structural, panelized, and modular construction activities.

Safety, Quality & Documentation

- Follow all Kalesnikoff health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas in all production areas.
- Contribute to the Quality Control system by identifying deficiencies and supporting corrective actions.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship with a strong focus on structural integrity and finish quality.
- Participate in inspections and quality reviews as required.
- Complete required documentation, daily work records, or production reporting as assigned.
- Provide guidance and support to team members in the application of safe work practices, quality standards, and established work procedures.
- Support the training and development of helpers and new team members through coaching, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, and workflow efficiency.
- Promote a culture of safety, craftsmanship, accountability, and quality throughout the production process.

Collaboration & Production Support

- Work collaboratively with other trades including electrical, mechanical, finishing, and production teams.
- Coordinate sequencing of work to minimize rework and support efficient production flow.
- Support production targets by maintaining a consistent pace of work while meeting quality and safety expectations.
- Handle, stage, and transport materials and components to designated work areas.
- Set up and dismantle scaffolding, platforms, or temporary supports as required.
- Provide guidance, support, and on-the-job training to helpers and new team members.
- Assist with coordinating daily work activities and task priorities to support production schedules and team efficiency.
- Share technical knowledge and best practices to support consistent workmanship and successful project outcomes.
- Remain flexible and adaptable to changing priorities in a manufacturing and construction environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education

- Journeyperson Carpenter certification or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Red Seal Carpenter endorsement is considered an asset.

Experience

- Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Carpenter.
- 3 years of demonstrated experience mentoring and training individuals and/or teams.
- Experience in modular, panelized, residential, commercial, industrial, or mass timber construction preferred.
- Experience with finishing carpentry, cabinet installation, casework,



flooring, doors, windows, trim, and siding considered a strong asset.
- Experience working with engineered wood products such as CLT or glulam is considered an asset.

Skills & Knowledge

- Strong knowledge of carpentry tools, equipment, and safe work practices.
- Ability to read and interpret building specifications, shop drawings, blueprints, and finish schedules.
- High attention to detail with pride in quality craftsmanship and finish work.
- Strong understanding of sequencing and coordination across multiple construction stages.
- Ability to safely perform rigging, lifting, and material handling activities.
- Effective time management skills and ability to meet production schedules.
- Robust communication skills and ability to collaborate within a team-based environment.
- Physically capable of performing demanding work including lifting, bending, kneeling, and working in confined modular spaces.
- Reliable attendance, adaptability, and commitment to continuous improvement.

- Location: 215 Orchard Ave, Castlegar, B.C.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

- Salary: $ 36.70 - $44.65 (dependent on experience)
- Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm
