Job title: Senior Financial Analyst (Remote - Alberta)
Location: Remote within Alberta
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM to 4:30 PM (Alberta Time)
Contract Opportunity (12-month)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Analyst to provide advanced accounting, financial analysis, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance support within a complex public-sector workplace. Reporting to senior finance leadership, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while supporting financial accountability, audit readiness, and continuous process improvement.
This position requires a strong technical accounting background, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to independently manage complex accounting and financial reporting activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform complex account reconciliations, financial analysis, and journal entry preparation.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including month-end and year-end activities.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable policies and standards.
- Investigate and resolve accounting, reporting, and financial system issues.
- Monitor and analyze accounts receivable, revenue, payroll-related transactions, and inter-unit accounts.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, reconciliations, and working papers.
- Identify financial risks, control gaps, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop and maintain financial procedures, documentation, and reporting tools.
- Provide technical guidance on accounting standards, financial policies, legislation, and procedures.
- Support financial system enhancements, operational initiatives, and continuous improvement projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in financial operations, accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, audit requirements, and financial reporting standards.
- Experience interpreting and applying accounting standards, financial policies, and legislation.
- Experience supporting internal and external audits.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial information systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound professional judgment.
Work Arrangement:
- This is a primarily remote role .
- Candidates must reside and work within Alberta .
- Occasional onsite meetings or work sessions may be required based on business needs with reasonable notice provided.
- Contractors are responsible for providing their own equipment, including computer, software, internet access, desk, and office setup.
Additional Requirements
- Successful candidates must obtain and maintain Enhanced/Level 2 Security Clearance .
