About Stone Oak Capital
Stone Oak Capital is a boutique sell-side M&A; advisory firm based in Edmonton, Alberta. We help business owners navigate the sale of their most valuable asset, guiding them through valuation, positioning, buyer outreach, negotiation, and close. We're a small, high-performing team, which means the M&A; analyst has real ownership over deals from day one, direct exposure to senior leadership, and a front-row seat to how transactions actually get done.
The Role
We're hiring a Senior M&A; Analyst to become a core part of our deal execution engine. You'll work directly with our advisory team on live sell-side mandates, building financial models, preparing marketing materials, conducting industry and buyer research, and supporting due diligence through to close.
This is a remote role open to candidates anywhere in Canada. Most of your work will be independent and asynchronous, with regular check-ins and close collaboration with the team.
We're looking for someone genuinely interested in M&A; who wants to learn the craft and take real ownership of their work. Attention to detail matters: financial models and client-facing materials need to be right. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can work independently, exercise good judgment, and step up when a live transaction demands it.
We believe in flexibility and sustainable work-life balance. We don't have a culture of chronic overtime. That said, M&A; is deadline-driven, and there will be periods when a transaction requires the team to put in extra time to get it across the finish line.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain financial models (valuation, projections, deal structuring) for active mandates.
- Prepare Confidential Information Memorandums (CIMs), management presentations, and other buyer-facing materials.
- Conduct company, industry,
and competitive landscape research to support deal positioning.
- Identify and help vet prospective buyers/acquirers for client mandates.
- Support due diligence, organizing data rooms, tracking requests, coordinating responses.
- Assist with deal execution logistics from engagement through close.
- Contribute to internal process and template improvements as the team scales.
What We're Looking For
- 2–5 years of experience in M&A;, investment banking, corporate finance, or a related transaction advisory role.
- CPA, CPA, CBV, or CFA designation, or meaningful progress toward one, with a robust foundation in accounting and financial statement analysis.
- Exceptional Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Highly analytical and detail-oriented. You don't simply accept information at face value; you question it, test it, reconcile it, and make sure the numbers make sense.
- Highly organized, particularly when managing large amounts of financial information and detailed due diligence requests.
- Excellent written communication; you'll be accountable for producing materials that go directly in front of clients and buyers.
- Strong attention to detail; comfortable being the last line of defense on numbers and documents.
- Self-directed and comfortable working remotely with minimal oversight.
- Genuine curiosity about business, deal-making, and how companies create and transfer value.
- Ability to flex up when a deal demands it, without losing sight of a sustainable pace the rest of the time.
What We Offer
- Fully remote role, open to candidates anywhere in Canada.
- Flexible schedule built around real work-life balance.
- Direct mentorship from a senior M&A; advisor with 25 years of transaction experience. This is a role where you'll actually learn the craft, not just execute tasks.
- Real ownership and visibility on live deals from day one.
- A small, tight-knit team where your work has direct, visible impact.
