Reporting to the Manager, Recruitment and Employee Development, the Senior Registrar, Teacher Certification (Senior Registrar) is a key member of the team responsible for ensuring that educators hired in Nunavut meet established certification requirements and are certified accordingly.

The Senior

Registrar is responsible for the development of policy options, for the Nunavut Educator Qualification Service (NEQS), as a way of keeping current with changes to territorial legislation and/or nationally recommended protocols for certification. This position also oversees the activities required to substantiate each salary evaluation/re-evaluation request and makes an appropriate salary level/adjustment determination based on established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities The Senior Registrar Teacher Certification’s main responsibilities are, but are not limited to:

- Providing strategic leadership, administration, management, and oversight of the Teacher Certification Registrar unit within the Human Resources Division, which includes establishing the unit's annual priorities and overseeing its activities to ensure they are delivered on time and within approved budgetary allocations.





- Managing and administering the Nunavut Educator Certification Service (NECS) process by confirming and making decisions related to teacher certification status as well as ensuring certifications and the certification process are aligned to the Education Act, Education Staff Regulations, NTA Collective Agreement(s), the Nunavut Educator Qualification Service policies and procedures.

- Evaluating education and training to determine eligibility for salary adjustments.

- Contributing to the development of NEQS Policy Options by providing advice to the Manager, Recruitment and Employee Development and NEQS on certification policy changes and facilitating and coordinating consultation on said policies.

- Administering NEQS Committee and ensuring detailed record-keeping.

- Leading, directing, and managing subordinate staff and supervising daily tasks.

Qualifications The knowledge, skills, abilities required for this position are typically acquired through a recognized undergraduate degree in business administration, human resources, management, education or a related field plus two (2) years of related experience in administration, human resources, or management including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut.



Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural setting are also considered assets.
