Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer to lead user-centered design initiatives and create effective, accessible, intuitive, and visually appealing digital experiences. The successful candidate will work closely with Business, Product, Development, QA, and other stakeholders to define product and service design vision, conduct user research, facilitate design workshops, and deliver end-to-end UX design solutions.

This role requires strong expertise in user research, service design, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, accessibility, and designing interfaces for complex digital products across web and mobile platforms.

Key Responsibilities

- Create effective, user-friendly, functional, accessible, usable, and visually appealing user interfaces.
- Design the overall functionality of digital products to ensure exceptional user experiences and continuously iterate designs based on user testing and feedback.
- Lead and facilitate UX projects, design workshops, ideation sessions, and stakeholder alignment sessions.
- Collaborate with Business, Product, Development, QA, and other cross-functional teams to establish product and service design vision and concepts.
- Conduct and manage end-to-end user research, including participant recruitment, research execution, analysis, and synthesis.
- Facilitate UX research using methods such as:

- User interviews

- Diary studies

- Usability testing

- Usability metrics tracking

- A/B testing

- Card sorting
- Surveys and other qualitative and quantitative research methods

- Translate research findings into actionable design deliverables.
- Lead design ideation and deliver comprehensive UX artifacts, including:

- To-be service design blueprints

- Information architecture

- Sitemaps

- User flows
- Customer and user journey maps

- User stories

- Wireframes

- Mockups

- Interactive prototypes

- Research, conceive, sketch, prototype, and user-test experiences for digital products across a wide range of devices and interfaces.
- Identify complex design problems and develop elegant, practical, and user-centered solutions.
- Make strategic UX and design decisions related to core product functionality, new features,



and enhancements.
- Gather and analyze user feedback to improve and configure existing interfaces.
- Design content that meets user needs and simplifies complex technical language, processes, and information.
- Demonstrate the ability to discern the right information and present it in the right format based on user needs.
- Design digital experiences with consideration for the emotional aspects of human experience.
- Work effectively within complex stakeholder environments, including legacy systems and nuanced approval relationships.
- Manage competing priorities while consistently meeting project deadlines.

Requirements

Mandatory Skills and Experience

UX Design & Research

- Extensive experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience as a UX Designer, Interactive Designer, UI Designer, or similar role designing web and mobile applications.
- Ability to define and lead UX projects, design workshops, and stakeholder/business user alignment sessions.
- Experience managing end-to-end user research from participant recruitment through synthesis.
- Strong experience facilitating UX research through multiple methodologies, including user interviews, diary studies, usability testing, usability metrics, A/B testing, and card sorting.
- Experience conceiving and conducting user research, interviews, and surveys.
- Ability to translate research insights into sitemaps, user flows, user journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
- Experience designing overall product functionality and iterating designs based on user testing.
- Experience delivering wireframes, user stories, user flows, user journeys, mockups, and prototypes optimized for multiple devices and interfaces.
- Experience leading design ideation and developing to-be service design blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Experience facilitating product and service design vision through research, ideation, sketching, prototyping, and user testing.
- Strong ability to identify design problems and develop elegant solutions.
- Experience making strategic UX and design decisions related to core functions, new features, and enhancements.




- Experience gathering and incorporating user feedback to improve existing interfaces.

UI & Digital Product Design

- Proven ability to deliver functional, accessible, usable, and aesthetically pleasing user interfaces.
- Experience designing interfaces for web and mobile applications.
- Strong understanding of responsive and multi-device design.
- Thorough understanding of the limitations and appropriate use of web development technologies.
- Experience designing online programs with emphasis on the emotional aspects of human experience.
- Experience designing content to meet user needs and simplify complex technical language and processes.
- Ability to determine and present the right information in the appropriate format based on user needs.

Design Tools

- Strong proficiency with Figma, Canvas, and similar design and prototyping tools.
- Experience creating interactive prototypes and high-fidelity design artifacts.

Collaboration & Communication

- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Business, Product, Development, QA, and other cross-functional teams.
- Experience facilitating product and service design vision and concepts with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation, including reports, reviews, and assessments.
- Ability to communicate design concepts and development processes clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong client relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams across different organizational levels.
- Proven track record of managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.

Desirable Skills Candidates with the following experience will be preferred:

- Knowledge and experience with accessibility testing.
- Ability to work with the Ontario Design System.
- Knowledge of Digital Service Standards.
- Experience working on complex design challenges, particularly involving legacy systems.
- Experience navigating complex stakeholder and approval relationships.
- Strong knowledge of accessible design principles.
- Experience designing and validating solutions against WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
- Knowledge of network security and network protocols.

Preferred Experience

- Previous experience working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or broader public sector workplace.
- Experience working on large-scale government digital transformation initiatives.
- Experience designing solutions for complex enterprise or legacy environments.
