Desa Glass

Calgary

DESA Glass is a family-owned and operated Canadian company based out of Rocky View, County. We are a manufacturer and supplier of high-quality aluminum products for the current and retrofit construction industry. Our business approach is led by our core values; Safety, Sustainability, People, Integrity, Quality & Innovation.

Through these, we navigate the market and align ourselves with vendors, clients and partners alike. Partnering global leaders in the aluminum industry, DESA leverages an extensive product portfolio to offer unique, cutting-edge solutions.

THE OPPORTUNITY

DESA Glass is looking for a hands-on Shipping and Receiving Manager to take ownership of the flow of material through our busy commercial glazing and manufacturing operation. This is not a desk-only logistics role. You will lead the team, solve problems in real time, protect project schedules, and make sound decisions when priorities change.

If you enjoy a challenge, stay calm when the plan moves, and want to build better systems with an amazing team, this could be the right opportunity.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

- Lead the day-to-day shipping and receiving team, including scheduling, priorities, training, coaching, and accountability.
- Plan daily receipts and shipments around production requirements, project schedules, site readiness, available labour, equipment, and carrier capacity.
- Verify inbound materials against purchase orders, packing slips, specifications, quantities, and condition before acceptance.
- Ensure all material is correctly tagged, recorded, located, protected, and traceable from receipt through shipment.
- Control damaged, incorrect, excess, or nonconforming material through quarantine, documentation, supplier claims, returns, and escalation.
- Verify outbound packing lists, work-order/release references, quantities, labels, packaging, loading sequence, and delivery instructions.
- Coordinate closely with Purchasing, Inventory, Production, Project Management, Field Operations, QA/QC, and Health & Safety.
- Select and coordinate carriers, delivery windows, routes,

and special handling while managing freight cost and service performance.
- Maintain accurate, same-day inventory and material-movement records and lead cycle counts and discrepancy investigations.
- Keep all loading, staging, storage, and receiving areas safe, organized, and ready for work.
- Make practical decisions on the fly, communicate risks early, and bring forward a recovery plan when a shipment or schedule is at risk.

WHAT YOU BRING

You are a steady, visible leader who can set expectations and earn trust on the floor. You do not wait for every problem to be handed upward, but you know when safety, quality, cost, or schedule risk must be escalated.

You are organized enough to protect the paperwork and systems, practical enough to understand physical material flow, and confident enough to stop a receipt or shipment when something is not right.

You communicate directly and respectfully, hold yourself and others accountable, and can work across departments without losing ownership of the result.

- Previous leadership experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, construction supply, or a comparable material-handling environment.
- Solid working knowledge of receiving inspection, inventory control, packing, load planning, carrier coordination, and shipping documentation.
- Experience supervising employees, setting daily work, coaching performance, and building cross-trained coverage.
- Confidence using ERP, inventory, or warehouse-management systems and common Microsoft Office applications; experience supporting a system implementation is an asset.
- Ability to read purchase orders, packing lists, work orders,

release documents, labels, and delivery instructions accurately.
- Sound judgment under pressure and the ability to reprioritize safely when production, project, or site conditions change.
- Knowledge of safe material handling, powered mobile equipment, load securement, and warehouse housekeeping expectations.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain it. Experience handling glass, aluminum, oversized, fragile, or project-specific materials is an asset.
- A valid driver’s licence and the ability to work on-site in Rocky View County.

WHY DESA GLASS

DESA Glass is a growing Western Canadian glazing contractor and manufacturer with two adjacent fabrication facilities in Alberta. We design, fabricate, and deliver complex facade, curtain wall, window wall, entrance, and architectural glass systems for major projects.

You will join an ambitious team that cares about quality, takes pride in what it builds, and is actively improving its systems. This role has room to make a visible impact: better flow, better records, safer work, stronger service, and fewer surprises for our projects and clients.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

- Receipts and shipments are accurate, traceable, documented, and completed on time.
- The team knows the daily plan, works safely, and is accountable for the result.
- Inventory records match physical material and discrepancies are investigated quickly.
- Project teams receive early warning of risks—and a realistic plan to recover.
- Damage, rehandling, urgent freight, waiting time, and avoidable logistics costs decline.

HOW TO APPLY

Send your resume and cover letter explaining why you are ready to take ownership of this challenge. We are interested in practical leaders who can improve the operation while working shoulder-to-shoulder with the team.

DESA Glass values a respectful, safe, and inclusive workplace. We thank all applicants for their interest; only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
