We are looking for candidates with strong technical expertise to fill this role. Below are the details of the position:

Software Engineer II

Location: Toronto, ON

Duration: 5 - Month Contract

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Software Engineer II with strong backend engineering experience to join a GovTech-focused team building scalable technology solutions that support expansion into new markets, regulatory compliance, and improved customer experiences.

In this role, you will design, build, and maintain backend services and distributed systems, contribute to partner integrations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact products. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Python and/or Golang , large-scale distributed systems, databases, cloud platforms, and highly available services.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who takes ownership, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and can drive projects from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality backend services and software solutions.
- Build and support scalable, fault-tolerant, highly available distributed systems.
- Contribute to technical design discussions and make thoughtful trade-offs between engineering investments and product priorities.
- Execute and support integrations with internal and external partners.
- Drive projects from initial concept through implementation, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Debug complex production issues and improve system reliability and performance.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Design, Data/Science, Operations, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Participate in code reviews and promote high standards for code quality, maintainability, and engineering best practices.




- Help unblock team members and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners.
- Share technical knowledge through documentation, technical discussions, presentations, or mentoring.

Core Technical Skills

Required

- 3+ years of qualified software engineering experience.
- Strong backend software development experience.
- Hands-on experience with Python and/or Golang .
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and backend architecture.
- Experience designing, debugging, and operating:
- Fault-tolerant systems
- Highly available services
- Large-scale distributed applications
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Experience building and maintaining production-grade software.
- Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, debugging, code quality, and maintainability.
- Experience with at least one major public cloud platform:
- AWS
- GCP
- Microsoft Azure
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred

- Strong experience with both Python and Golang .
- Experience with backend APIs, microservices, and service-oriented architectures.
- Experience with third-party or external partner integrations.
- Experience working on systems with high scale, reliability, and performance requirements.
- Experience taking technical projects from design through production deployment.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional product environment.

- Experience or proficiency with AI-powered tools and technologies .
- Experience working with technology supporting regulatory, compliance, public-sector, or market-expansion initiatives.
