About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineering Lead to join our team at Stripe. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that support critical business functions across the organization.

You will lead a talented team of engineers, providing mentorship and strategic guidance to ensure the delivery of high-quality data solutions. Your expertise will help optimize data workflows, enhance data quality, and enable advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the company's data architecture, collaborate across departments, and contribute to Stripe's mission of increasing the GDP of the internet.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of distributed data frameworks, a passion for innovation,



and strong leadership skills to drive technical excellence and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

- Minimum of 10+ years of experience building and operating large-scale data systems, pipelines, and warehouses
- Solid engineering background with proficiency in data engineering principles and practices
- Experience with distributed data frameworks such as Spark, Flink, Kafka, or similar technologies
- Deep knowledge of SQL and backend development languages including Scala, Java, or Go
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data quality issues
- Customer-focused mindset with excellent collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
- Ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments with high responsibility
- Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
- Strong communication skills suitable for diverse audiences including technical and executive stakeholders

Responsibilities

- Lead the technical direction and outcomes for a team of talented data engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation
- Mentor team members, providing guidance on best practices, technical challenges, and career development
- Partner with recruiting to attract, evaluate, and hire top-tier talent for the data engineering team
- Design and deliver reliable, scalable, and efficient data pipelines that meet organizational needs




- Manage the SLAs and operational health of critical data pipelines and full-stack web applications
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to develop canonical datasets and data warehouses
- Utilize AI, LLMs, and agents to produce and analyze high-quality data for complex and ambiguous problems
- Drive key data initiatives from planning through deployment, ensuring high standards of quality and timely delivery
- Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment that encourages knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
