Position Purpose The Supervisor, Library Branches is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of Georgina Public Library¿s (GPL) branches, and for providing consistent frontline leadership across the library system. The Supervisor ensures effective public service, staff training, scheduling, safety and security, maintenance of facilities and equipment, and adherence to established policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications
¿ Library Technician¿s Diploma, Business Administration diploma, or diploma in another relevant discipline.
¿ Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a public library or comparable customer service environment, including demonstrated experience supervising or leading staff. Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
¿ One-year period of adjustment, orientation, and adaptation on the job
¿ Normal office conditions
¿ Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
¿ Requirement to travel to various locations.
¿ Valid Class 'G' Driver's license and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
¿ Police Vulnerable Sector Check deemed as satisfactory by Georgina Public Library.

Position Summary The Supervisor,
Library Branches is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of Georgina Public Library¿s (GPL) branches, and for providing consistent frontline leadership across the library system. The Supervisor ensures effective public service, staff training, scheduling, safety and security, maintenance of facilities and equipment, and adherence to established policies and procedures.
Working within the strategic direction established by the Library Board and library leadership, especially the Manager, Library Customer Experience, the Supervisor translates organizational priorities into effective branch operations and provides a regular presence across all library locations. The Supervisor supports frontline staff in resolving operational and customer service issues, identifies opportunities for improvement, and works collaboratively with the Manager, Library Customer Experience and other library leaders to ensure consistent, high-quality service.
The Supervisor provides operational leadership, guidance, training, and support to frontline staff across the branch system, with direct supervision focused on Library Students and Casual Library Clerks. The Supervisor provides operational guidance to other frontline staff as required and works in partnership with Branch Experience Coordinators, who provide day-to-day frontline coaching, workflow coordination, and procedural support. The Supervisor serves as a management escalation point for operational, employee, and customer service matters requiring management intervention.
Responsibilities
People Leadership, Supervision & Staff Development
- Coordinates and adjusts day-to-day staff deployment and branch coverage within approved staffing models and scheduling parameters, addressing absences and operational needs and escalating broader staffing issues to the Manager, Library Customer Experience.
- Provides direct supervision and leadership to Library Students and Casual Library Clerks, including work assignment, performance reviews, regular development discussions, coaching, training plans, and performance documentation.
- While consulting with the Manager, Library Customer Experience and Human Resources, leads recruitment, selection, onboarding, and employee or performance-related matters for Library Students and Casual Library Clerks.
- Reviews and approves routine leave requests for direct reports in accordance with the Collective Agreement, applicable policies, and established staffing parameters.
- Partners with Branch Experience Coordinators to ensure consistent day-to-day coaching, training, mentoring, workflow support, and application of customer service procedures across branches, and responds to escalated employee or performance matters requiring management intervention.
- Creates a culture where employees feel their work is recognized and valued, providing resources and assistance where needed. Plans and supports the development of others and fosters innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Branch Operations & Customer Experience
- Ensures efficient day-to-day library operations and compliance with established policies and procedures across all branch locations.
- Provides operational input into the development and revision of branch procedures and service practices and implements approved policies, procedures, and operational priorities across library branches. Coordinates related activities with staff.
- Serves as a management escalation point for operational and customer service issues that cannot be resolved at the frontline level and supports the consistent application of Library policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Responds to customer needs online, over the phone, and in person and assists in resolving difficult or complex service interactions,
including issues related to library charges.
- Interacts with staff and customers with empathy, patience, clarity, attentiveness, and positivity; conveys information clearly and uses active listening skills.
- Identifies and proposes new approaches to improve branch operations and meet customer needs and supports the development and implementation of approved customer service improvements.
Facilities, Safety & Resource Stewardship
- Responsible for facility and inventory security, including the general maintenance condition, safety, and security of branches, and liaises with Library Management and Town of Georgina Facilities Maintenance teams to resolve issues.
- Monitors assigned branch operating expenses, supplies, and purchasing requirements within approved budgets and provides budget information and recommendations to the Manager, Library Customer Experience.
- Collects and monitors statistics needed for the management of branch operations and prepares, reviews, maintains, and assists with related reports, records, and documentation.
- Oversees branch-level health and safety readiness, including workplace inspections, emergency and first-aid supplies, safety documentation, incident reporting and investigation, and corrective follow-up.
- Participates in the Town's Health and Safety programs and training and ensures compliance with applicable Health and Safety policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
- Applies knowledge of the Workplace Health & Safety Policy and relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation to protect employees and the public, including identifying unsafe practices or conditions, ensuring corrective action is taken, providing appropriate information and instruction, and conducting incident investigations and reporting as required.
Organizational Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with staff, management, internal and external customers, Town departments, and community stakeholders in support of the Library's mission and operational objectives.
- Participates on committees, working groups, and special projects as required, including the Joint Health & Safety Committee and organizational or community initiatives.
- Stays current with library-related technologies, practices, equipment, operational trends, and emerging approaches relevant to branch and customer service operations.
- Participates in professional development and develops new skills required to respond to changing operational and service needs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Training:
- Library Technician¿s Diploma, Business Administration diploma, or diploma in another relevant discipline.
Experience:
- Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a public library or comparable customer service environment, including demonstrated experience supervising or leading staff. Experience working in a unionized workplace is preferred.

Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of library policies, procedures, practices, and relevant legislation.
