TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH - Instructor/Team Lead

Recent Directions is a non-profit social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that provide supports in a variety of settings and foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.

Training Opportunities for Youth (TOFY) is one of the many service areas within Culture Education and Training at New Directions. TOFY provides wrap around Case Management, Life and Employment skills, and on the job training for youth 16-29 years of age who have multiple barriers to success in life.

Responsibilities/Duties include:

Train and Supervise Participants

- Supervises and provides oversight of participants in training (both internally & externally).
- Manages performance and areas of development for each youth (both soft and hard skills).
- Develops participant work schedules, track scheduled hours, and remit hours worked.
- Documents performance and manage issues with participants
- Collaborates with Coordinator performance concerns for participants.
- Assesses participants' emotional stability and support participants in strategies to resolve problems/challenges.
- Supports participants in meeting goals set out in individual support plans

Classroom Instruction

- Prepares and maintains lesson plans for specific job training.
- Develops appropriate curriculum including learning objectives and outcomes.
- Explains curriculum topic areas as they relate to the program as a whole.
- Provides and maintains an optimum level of structure in the classroom.
- Creates a positive and safe environment in the classroom.

Administration

- Completes all required program documentation.
- Orders and maintains all necessary products and equipment as needed.
- Organizes and maintains inventory of supplies.
- Submits receipts for enterprise and vehicle expenses to Coordinator.
- Oversees weekly vehicle inspections and daily mileage log

Qualifications Include:

- Working supervisory experience




- Experience in trades and textile industries
- Ability to work independently on projects and tasks.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification is required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with the ability to operate a motor vehicle unsupervised
- Experience using hand / power tools in home renovations and repairs
- Experience using all lawn care/tree services equipment
- Knowledge and understanding of related Workplace Safety & Health legislation/requirements, safe work practices, ladder protocols, hazardous materials management & disposal, lawn care safety, bodily fluid and needle disposal protocols, and site evacuation plans
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Excel, Work, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Post-secondary degree in Education, Business or Social Services considered an asset
- Experience supporting at risk youth considered an asset
- Strong organization and communication skills, both verbal and written.

The salary range for this Full-time, 70-hour biweekly position is $23.9254 to $31.0939 per hour, (equivalent to $43,544 - $56,590 per annum) dependent upon education and/or experience.

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry, Prior Contact, and Adult Abuse Registry Checks. A recent Driver’s Abstract and Driver’s Safety Rating must be provided. Access to a vehicle is required.
