Senior UX Designer

About the Opportunity

Our client, the Government Services Integration Cluster (GSIC) under the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, is seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer to join their team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating effective, user-friendly, accessible, and visually appealing digital experiences. This role requires a strong background in end-to-end UX design, user research, service design, prototyping, stakeholder engagement, and iterative product development.

This is a 100% onsite role in Toronto, Ontario, requiring attendance in the office 5 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

- Create effective, intuitive, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces for digital products and services.
- Design the overall functionality of products to ensure exceptional user experiences and continuously iterate designs based on user testing and feedback.
- Apply a user-centered design approach throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Define and lead UX projects, design workshops, alignment sessions, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Manage end-to-end user research, including participant recruitment, research planning, execution, analysis, synthesis, and presentation of findings.
- Facilitate UX research using a variety of methodologies, including:

- User interviews

- Diary studies

- Usability testing

- Usability metrics tracking

- A/B testing

- Card sorting
- Surveys and other qualitative and quantitative research methods

- Synthesize research findings into clear and insightful research artifacts, including:

- User journey maps

- Personas

- Service blueprints

- Affinity maps

- Translate research insights into intuitive and effective design solutions.
- Lead design ideation and deliver comprehensive UX and service design artifacts, including:

- To-be service design blueprints

- Information architecture

- Sitemaps

- User flows

- Customer/user journey maps

- Wireframes

- Mockups

- Interactive prototypes

- Design and deliver experiences optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces, including web and mobile applications.
- Facilitate the client's product vision through research, ideation, sketching, prototyping,



and user testing.
- Identify complex design problems and develop elegant, practical, and user-centered solutions.
- Make strategic UX and design decisions related to core functionality, current features, and product enhancements.
- Gather and incorporate user feedback to improve and optimize existing interfaces.
- Design interfaces using established design systems and contribute to consistent user experiences.
- Work with and apply the Ontario Design System where required.
- Consider accessibility throughout the design process and support compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
- Work effectively within an Agile, sprint-based development environment.
- Demonstrate an understanding of iterative product development cycles, including Discovery, Agile, Beta, and Live phases.
- Collaborate closely with developers, QA specialists, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Manage competing priorities while meeting project timelines and deliverables.

UX Design &

- Research

- Extensive experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer, Interactive Designer, or similar role, designing digital experiences for web and mobile applications.
- Experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Strong ability to define and lead UX projects, design workshops, and stakeholder alignment sessions.
- Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end user research, from participant recruitment through research synthesis.
- Hands-on experience facilitating UX research through multiple methodologies, including:

- User interviews

- Diary studies

- Usability testing

- Usability metrics tracking

- A/B testing

- Card sorting

- Ability to synthesize research findings into concise and meaningful research documentation, including user journey maps, personas, service blueprints, and affinity maps.
- Experience conceiving and conducting user research, interviews, and surveys and translating insights into actionable design deliverables.
- Strong experience designing and delivering:

- Information architecture

- User stories

- Experience facilitating product vision through research, ideation, sketching, prototyping, and user testing.

- Experience designing interfaces using a design system.
- Ability to work with the Ontario Design System.
- Thorough understanding of web development technologies, including their appropriate use and limitations.

- Knowledge and experience with accessibility testing.
- Proficiency in designing accessible digital experiences.
- Understanding of and experience meeting WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements.
- Knowledge of digital service standards.

Communication &

- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation, including reports, reviews, assessments, and research findings.
- Ability to clearly communicate design concepts and development processes to diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA specialists, business stakeholders, and leadership.
- Strong stakeholder management and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members at different organizational levels.
- Excellent organizational skills with a proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience solving complex design challenges, particularly involving legacy systems.
- Experience navigating nuanced stakeholder relationships and approval processes.
- Experience designing online programs with consideration for the emotional aspects of human experience.
- Prior experience working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or broader public sector environment.
- Strong understanding of government digital services and user-centered service delivery.
