Job Overview The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea, located on the traditional territory of the WSÁNEĆ First Nations, along the beautiful Sidney waterfront, is a registered charity and community aquarium with a focus on natural history and cultural learning. Connecting visitors with the Salish Sea bioregion and its ecosystems through engagement, education and awareness, the Centre offers an interactive and informative experience for explorers of all ages from around the corner and across the world. Over 3,500 marine animals in natural habitats, including wolf eels, sea stars, salmon, and a giant Pacific octopus, make up over 160 species offering a unique West Coast learning experience.

Position The role requires an enthusiastic individual for our Visitor Experience team in a full-time capacity. In this role, you are a first point of contact for visitors of the Centre, and you provide exceptional customer service at our retail and admissions/memberships desk. We see approximately 80,000 visitors per year come through the Admissions desk. This is a retail/sales focused position and not an animal care/education position.

Duties include:

- Providing friendly, welcoming, and helpful customer service.
- Processing customer transactions through admissions and retail tills.
- Processing end of day cash-out and till reconciliation.
- Providing detailed information regarding tickets, memberships and merchandise.
- Answering and transferring calls on a multi-line phone system.
- Ensuring the retail space is always clean, tidy and free from clutter.
- Maintaining membership contact information and ensuring it’s up to date.
- Counting, organizing retail inventory, which may include moving/lifting boxes, organizing merchandise in backstock and in store.





Qualifications:

- Familiarity with POS systems and cash handling - experience balancing a till is an asset.
- Enthusiastic positive personality geared towards exceptional customer service.
- Ability to multi-task in a busy environment while maintaining positive interactions with customers.
- Ability to lift up to 20lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
- Punctuality and reliability to attend in-person shifts.
- Available to work Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday. 8:45AM-4:45PM.

Hours: Four (4) regular shifts a week. Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Thirty (30) hours per week. Shifts are 7.5 hours each (generally 8:45AM-4:45PM). Opportunities for additional days/hours may be available.

Note: The position requires 30 hours (4 days) per week, including Sundays. Applicants must be authorized to work in Canada, be at least 16 years of age and will be required to submit a vulnerable sector criminal record check prior to starting employment.
