We are hiring an HVDC Field Technologist to join our field office.Job DescriptionThis position reports to the Manager, HVDC.ResponsibilitiesEnsure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of AltaLink's HVDC assetsPerform ongoing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on HVDC equipment/systems (Protection and control systems relays, PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, etc.; primary equipment transformers, breakers, filters, valves)Perform preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance on numerous auxiliary systems (motor controls, switch gear, valve cooling systems, auxiliary power system, etc.)Perform inspections and condition monitoring on converter station facilities and equipmentParticipate in root cause and failure mode investigations on abnormal equipment operations or failuresCoordinate operations, clearances,
outages and work activities with AltaLink System ControlCenter Plan and coordinate work of third-party service providers and equipment OEMsExecute switching and hold permissions from ACCCoordinate on-site activities including contractor workSupport warranty claim processManage onsite HVDC spares inventories, tools and equipmentUpdate and maintain documentation for safety practices, work methods, work procedures, training manuals and emergency restoration plansEnsure all site documentation is kept up to dateMaintain a competency development process to sustain HVDC technology skillsDemonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars - one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountabilityRequirementsDiploma in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering TechnologyMinimum 7 years electric utility experience or industrial plant experienceProtection & Control experience/background is an assetPrior HVDC experience would be advantageousProven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilitiesExperience in installation, testing and maintenance of P&C, SCADA, PLC and other auxiliary systemsExperience in installation, testing and maintenance of high voltage station equipment including transformers, circuit breakers and instrument transformersPreference given to someone qualified as Utility disciple work leader and qualified to perform switching and receive/authorize permission to work in a substationFamiliar with use of SAP and MS Office applications (Excel, Word etc.)Able to work as part of a small team with minimal supervisionAvailability for on call 24/7 coverageStrong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsAbility to write reports, manuals, and proceduresFlexible with the ability to positively influence others,
