Ready to learn how a transportation business really runs - from the inside? We're hiring a hands-on Manager of Operations & Business Development to work directly with senior leadership, take ownership of daily operations, and help grow our client base.

Location: Vaughan, Ontario (Hwy 7/Dufferin) - fully in person
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
After-hours availability: Required for urgent operational issues, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Travel: Approximately 2–4 trips per month to Montreal, Edmonton, and Calgary; company-paid
Reports to: CEO
Salary: CAD 80,000–120,000 (based on skills and experience)
Work authorization: Must be authorized to work in Canada

About the Company
The employer is an established Canadian logistics and container-services company, operating more than 200 power units and over 800 chassis across four offices in Canada.
Their strategically located yards sit near key rail terminals in Mississauga, Montreal, Calgary, and Edmonton, backed by approximately 15 acres of secured short- and long-term storage capacity nationwide.
It's a practical, fast-moving environment where operations, customer service, dispatch, fleet activity, and commercial decisions are closely connected.

The Opportunity
This is a hands-on leadership role for a logistics professional who wants to learn how to run a transportation business from the inside.
The role is approximately 70% operations and 30% business development. It's not a pure sales role, and it's not a desk-based strategy position.
You'll work closely with senior leadership, support daily operational decisions, lead teams, manage customer issues, and contribute to business growth. You'll learn the operation deeply, take ownership of difficult situations, and earn broader responsibility through strong execution.
This opportunity is best suited to someone ambitious, commercially capable, operationally hands-on, and motivated to prove themselves in a demanding environment.

What You'll Do
Operations & Leadership
Support daily operational decision-making across logistics and container services
Help manage urgent customer, service, staffing, and operational issues
Work closely with dispatch, customer service, drivers, yards, and internal teams

Lead, coach, and support employees in a high-pressure environment
Set clear expectations and maintain accountability
Improve communication, execution, and follow-through across teams
Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
Take ownership of practical solutions and escalate critical issues appropriately

Client & Commercial Responsibilities
Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders
Identify and pursue new business opportunities in logistics and container services
Support account growth and long-term customer retention
Understand client needs and coordinate with operations to ensure realistic service delivery
Participate in pricing, proposals, presentations, and commercial discussions
Represent the company professionally in client meetings and industry settings
Prepare regular updates on operational priorities, client activity, and business-development progress

Travel & Availability
Travel approximately 2–4 times per month to Montreal, Edmonton, and Calgary
Attend client meetings, visit company locations, and support business-development activity
Remain reachable for urgent operational decisions outside regular hours when required
Maintain reliable transportation for local travel

Who We're Looking For
You're likely a strong fit if you:
Have experience in logistics, transportation, freight forwarding, trucking, intermodal, drayage, warehousing, distribution, or a closely related environment
Have already taken responsibility for people, customers, service issues, or branch-level execution
Are commercially capable and comfortable speaking with clients
Have experience winning, growing, or supporting business
Are hands-on and willing to stay involved after the sale
Can make sound decisions under pressure
Communicate directly, clearly, and professionally

Are confident without needing immediate authority
Are comfortable learning from experienced operators
Want to grow into broader leadership responsibility over time
Can operate effectively in an entrepreneurial environment with limited layers and fast decisions
Are willing to earn trust through consistency, judgment, and follow-through

Experience & Qualifications
Minimum 3+ years of leadership or managerial experience
Experience in business development, account growth, client management, or commercial operations
Solid understanding of logistics, transportation, supply chain, or container-related services
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication, relationship-management, and problem-solving skills
Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field is preferred
MBA or advanced degree is considered an asset
Must be authorized to work in Canada

Strong Assets
Experience with CN or CPKC rail
Drayage or intermodal experience
Container transportation knowledge
Experience working with dispatch, terminals, chassis, drivers, or yards
Experience managing customer escalations or service recovery
Experience leading a small operational or commercial team
Existing relationships within logistics, transportation, manufacturing, warehousing, importing, distribution, or 3PL environments

This Role Isn't the Right Fit If You're Looking For
A pure business-development role with little operational involvement
A predictable role with no after-hours responsibility
A senior title without hands-on execution
Immediate authority without first learning the operation
A highly structured corporate environment with multiple layers of support

What We Offer
Salary of CAD 80,000–120,000 (Based on skills and experience)
Annual bonus based on personal performance
Comprehensive benefits package
Company-paid travel expenses
Direct exposure to senior leadership
Opportunity to learn a complex national logistics operation
Potential to grow into broader operational and leadership responsibility based on performance
A demanding, practical, and supportive work environment
