Landscape Construction Crew Member / Labourer Opportunity to Advance to Crew Lead O’Flaherty’s Landscaping is seeking dedicated, hardworking crew members with landscaping, interlocking, construction, or related hands-on experience to join our team. You may start as a Landscape Construction Labourer, but if you demonstrate strong skills, leadership, reliability, and jobsite knowledge, there is an opportunity to advance into a Crew Lead position. We are looking for people who are willing to work hard, learn, pitch in wherever needed, and take pride in completing quality outdoor projects. About the Position Our crews work on a wide variety of residential and commercial landscape construction projects throughout Durham Region and surrounding GTA communities. Projects may include: -Interlocking stone driveways, patios and walkways -Retaining walls and raised gardens -Grading and base preparation -Sod installation and planting -Decking, fencing and wood construction -Concrete and construction work -Demolition and site preparation -Landscape renovations and outdoor construction Landscape or construction experience is preferred, particularly interlocking stone installation and site preparation. However, we are also willing to train someone who has a robust work ethic, is mechanically inclined, and genuinely wants to learn the trade. This is a physically demanding outdoor position. You must be prepared to work in changing weather and temperature conditions. Some days are fast-paced with strict deadlines, while other times you may need to wait for equipment, materials or the next stage of construction. You must be able to adapt, follow direction and find ways to help the crew keep the job moving. If you don't know how to operate a particular tool or piece of equipment, we are happy to provide on-site training to the right candidate. Responsibilities -Assist with the installation of interlocking stone, patios, walkways, driveways,
retaining walls and other landscape features -Pick up, load, transport and unload construction and landscaping materials -Move and place interlocking stone, aggregates, soil, sod, plants and other materials -Assist with excavation, grading and fine grading -Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil and levelling aggregates -Erect and dismantle concrete forms, ramps and temporary work structures -Assist with framing, decking, fencing and other wood construction -Assist with demolition and site preparation -Operate basic construction tools and equipment safely -Assist with cutting and drilling stone, concrete, rock and wood -Operate Bobcat/skid-steer equipment or equivalent when qualified; training may be provided -Tend or assist with machinery and construction equipment -Clean, organize and safely store tools and materials -Remove rubble, debris and waste from construction sites -Clean and stack reusable or salvaged materials -Direct traffic at or near construction sites when required and in accordance with safety procedures -Maintain a clean, organized and hazard-free jobsite -Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors and customers when required -Follow instructions from supervisors and experienced tradespeople -Arrive on time and ready to work at the designated jobsite or our Whitby location Requirements Successful candidates must:
-Be available to work Monday through Saturday as required -Have a valid driver's licence -Have reliable transportation to and from our Whitby location and to the jobsites -Have a reliable cell phone -Be physically capable of performing demanding outdoor construction work -Be able to repeatedly lift and carry at least 50 lbs -Be comfortable loading and unloading heavy materials including interlocking stone, soil, aggregates, sod and yard waste -Be willing and able to work outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions -Be dependable, punctual and able to follow instructions -Be able to work independently and as part of a crew -Have good time-management skills and understand the importance of meeting project deadlines -Be willing to learn new tools, equipment and construction techniques -Be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, as required for jobsite instructions and workplace safety Experience That Is an Asset Previous experience with any of the following is considered an asset: -Interlocking stone installation -Landscape construction -Excavation and grading -Skid-steer/Bobcat operation -Retaining walls -Concrete work -Carpentry, decking or fencing -General construction -Hardscape installation -Equipment operation Don't have experience in every area?
