When you volunteer at the Canadian Cancer Society you have real impact. The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is a volunteer-led event and the largest breast cancer fundraiser in Canada. Join us on event day in your local community. You can choose a specific role and shift(s) based on availability.
Description The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is a 5k or 1k walk or run.
This year’s event will be taking place on Sunday, October 4th, 2026.
Bring your energy to the course! Our Route & Finish Line Support volunteers help participants stay on track, stay hydrated and feel encouraged every step of the way.
Tasks for this role may include:
- Take an assigned position along the 1k or 5k route
- Help direct participants and keep them on the correct course
- Provide transparent directions at turns, intersections and key points along the route
- Cheer on and encourage participants throughout the Run
- Help manage participant flow at the start and finish lines
- Support participants as they cross the finish line
- Help set up and organize water stations
- Prepare and distribute water to participants
- Keep assigned areas organized and help with clean-up after participants have passed
- Specific assignments may include Route Marshal, Start/Finish Line or Water Station support
- Be comfortable standing and working outdoors for the duration of the shift
- Must be 19+
- Bring lots of energy, encouragement and a positive attitude — your enthusiasm helps make Run Day special!
Your specific role assignment and responsibilities will be shared with you before the event so you know exactly what to expect on Run Day
