Associate Dean, Schools of Engineering Technologies and Apprenticeship & Skilled Trades Faculty of Applied Science, Construction and Engineering Technology On-site Full time Admin Replacement EFFECTIVE DATE:Immediately George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Applied Science,Construction and Engineering Technologies (FASCET), theAssociateDeanprovides collaborative academic leadership and management oftheSchool of Apprenticeship & Skilled TradesandSchool ofEngineering Technologiesin alignment with the strategic initiatives of the College's academic plan.

The Associate

Dean is accountable for providingboth academic and administrative leadership, including supervision anddirection to faculty, managers, support staff, and students within theirportfolio.

These

Schools currently run 11 full-time programs, bothonline and on campus, as well as9apprenticeships. Works collaboratively with the Dean and theleadership team in all divisional leadership activities including thedevelopment and implementation of the Faculty’s and the Schools’ strategicplans as part of the college’s academic and operational planning exercises. Maintains a high level of performance through allaspects of people management, supervising approximately 80-100 employeesin any given semester.

Conducts effective hiring, orienting, anddeveloping faculty, managers, and support staff. Conducts ongoing performancereviews, providing regular feedback, coaching and mentorship. Resolves conflicts and addresses complaints – fromemployees and from students – and manages complex team dynamicseffectively following relevant College policies and procedures andaccessing appropriate resources and supports.

Initiates, facilitates, and leads the review,development, implementation,



and quality assurance of new and existingprograms, initiatives and facilities in response to changing external andinternal factors, including accreditation review and adherence toapplicable regulatory bodies and professional associations standards.Ensures a focus on access, equity, and inclusion in delivering highquality, student-focused programming. Ensures that the objectives oftheSchoolsare attained through effective supervision of theteaching and learning processes.Engages, encourages anddirects scholarly and applied research activities. Leads workload and workforce planningforSchools, determining faculty teaching and complementary functionassignments, making strategic human resource decisions and maintaining thebest interests and needs of the Schools.

Leads partnership development with externalacademic and community partners, including Program Advisory Committee(PAC). Ensures positive and effective brand awareness of programs, workingcollaboratively with Marketing and Communications, Registrar’s Office,Community Partnerships Office, International Education Office, and otherareas to ensure positive reputation across the College and the community. Leads the development, monitoring and directing oftheSchools’operating budgets in collaboration with theManager, Academic Operations, divisional manager of finance and operationsand the Dean.

Oversees and ensures fiscal accountability for all fundingsources accessed to operate the Schools’ programs and initiatives. Master’s Degreefrom a recognizedpost-secondary institution in Mechanical Engineering or relateddiscipline. A Certificate of Qualification - Journeypersondesignation in a registered trade is a strong asset.

Additional certification in teaching, UDL, projectmanagement, leadership, etc., is a strong asset. Minimum nine (9) years of experience as ajourneyperson in a skilled trade, or engineering technologies and in theeducation field,



including management/leadership experience, preferably ina unionized environment.

Experience in fostering excellence in teaching andlearning and academic programming. Demonstrated administrative/leadership experience,including developing and managing budgets, administration of policies andprocedures and management of human resources. Demonstrated expertise in teaching and curriculum development.

Leadership experience to advance quality in programming and to improve the student experience and engage faculty in activities to advance scholarship. Advanced leadership skills, including advanced communication, collaboration, team-building, conflict resolution, negotiation, and change management skills. Demonstrated ability to create a positive, inclusive, and community-focused workplace.

Demonstrated skills in systems-thinking, strategic planning, and creative problem-solving. Skilled in utilizing data to inform decision-making and set strategic priorities to widen access, improve the student experience, and advance on student success and program goals for the Schools. Digital skills essential, including expertise in virtual management as well as relevant experience with software to support teaching, research and administrative activities.

Demonstrated commitment to upholdthe polytechnic’s priorities on equity, diversity, inclusion andIndigenization (EDII). Willingness to work remotelyand on campus as well as travel between campuses and for external meetingsand events. The Polytechnic requires proof of degrees, credentials, or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their international equivalents.
