Ascent Systems Technologies
Surrey
Help build the future of physical AI.
Ascent Systems Technologies develops advanced autonomous platforms for persistent operation in remote, harsh, and infrastructure-limited environments.
Our systems combine autonomous energy, robotics and automation, advanced sensing, edge computing and AI, multi-modal communications, and autonomous aerial and ground vehicle operations.
We are seeking a highly capable new graduate or early-career engineer with a strong multidisciplinary background to join our growing technical team.
This role is for someone who enjoys working across traditional engineering boundaries and turning complex technologies into functioning autonomous systems.
Your role
You will contribute to the development, integration, testing, and evolution of Ascent's autonomous platforms.
Responsibilities include
- Integration of sensors, communications, computing, control, and robotic subsystems
- Development and implementation of automation and control functions
- Sensor integration, data processing, and multi-sensor fusion
- Integration of UAVs, UGVs, and other autonomous systems
- Embedded and edge-computing applications
- System-level testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
- Field testing and validation
- Technical analysis and support of customer demonstrations and programs
You will work directly with company leadership and experienced engineers on defence, security, Arctic, and autonomous infrastructure applications. We are looking for someone with
- Bachelor's or Master's degree,
preferably in Engineering Physics or Mechatronics; Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline will also be considered
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Valuable software/programming skills
- Understanding of controls, automation, sensors, and embedded systems
- Ability to understand and work with complex multidisciplinary systems
- Strong technical communication skills
- Practical, hands-on approach to engineering
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently
Strong assets Experience or academic exposure in one or more of:
- Robotics and autonomous systems
- Signal and data processing
- Sensor fusion
- AI / machine learning
- Radar, RF, or other advanced sensing technologies
- Satellite, wireless, or resilient communications
- UAVs and UGVs
- Defence or aerospace systems
Why join Ascent? You may be a great fit if you:
- Approach difficult technical problems from first principles
- Think across disciplines rather than in silos
- Take ownership and are comfortable figuring things out
- Can move between concept and implementation
- Want your work to become part of real systems operating in the field
We value intellectual curiosity, technical depth, practical engineering judgment, and systems thinking. This is an opportunity to take on meaningful technical responsibility early and help build genuinely novel Canadian autonomous technology.
