Backend Operations Associate — Trading Card Store

About the Role:

Sunny Hobbies is looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Backend Operations Associate to join our team at our physical retail location at 3300 Midland Ave, Scarborough.

This is primarily a part-time, in-person position focused on order fulfillment, packaging, inventory organization, trading card sorting, and general store operations. A full-time position may be considered depending on availability, performance, training progress, and business needs.

This role is best suited for someone who is organized, dependable, comfortable with repetitive work, and able to maintain a high level of accuracy without constant supervision.

Basic trading card knowledge is required, but reliability, attention to detail, and work ethic are especially significant.

Responsibilities

- Pick and prepare online orders, in-store pickup orders, and customer-requested items.
- Package orders carefully and accurately to reduce damage, missing items, and fulfillment errors.
- Sort large quantities of trading cards by game, set, rarity, condition, value, language, or other instructions.
- Stock, organize, count, and maintain inventory records.
- Assist with bulk inventory handling and organization.
- Follow Sunny Hobbies' internal procedures, checklists, and SOPs.
- Document completed work and communicate with coworkers regarding assigned tasks.
- Assist customers and front-of-store staff when required.
- Help maintain an organized and efficient workspace.
- Perform other general store duties as needed.

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following is an asset, but not necessarily required:

- Retail or customer service
- Order picking, packing, or shipping
- Inventory counting and stock organization
- E-commerce order fulfillment
- Shopify or similar e-commerce platforms
- Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
- Hobby, gaming, collectible, or trading card stores
- Pokémon, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Riftbound, Gundam, or other trading card games

Applicants with TCG experience should be comfortable with tasks such as identifying card sets, sorting cards efficiently, distinguishing language/rarity/condition, and handling collectible merchandise carefully.

Compensation

- Training period: $17.60/hour
- Training period is approximately 3 months
- After successful training: approximately $19.00/hour
- Vacation pay and statutory deductions apply.
- Discretionary bonuses may be offered.
- Employees who successfully complete training may also become eligible for staff discounts.

Schedule

Sunny Hobbies operates seven days a week, approximately 2:30 PM – 9:30 PM.

Applicants should generally be available for shifts between approximately 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Actual days and hours will depend on store needs. Evening and weekend availability is an asset.

Full-time employment, if offered, consists of at least approximately 35 hours per week.

Physical Requirements

This position may involve standing, bending, reaching, lifting or moving boxes, and sorting cards or products for extended periods. Reasonable accommodation can be provided where required.

Pay: $17.60-$19.00 per hour
