Work Environment: Indoor/ outdoor industrial battery facility
Reports To: Site Supervisor / Decommissioning Supervisor
Estimated Start date: 1st week September
Position Summary
We are seeking 8 General Laborers to support the safe decommissioning and removal of an indoor industrial battery system.
This is a temporary 11-day project assignment, with approximately 10-hour workdays. The work schedule may include Saturdays depending on project requirements.
The role is a general labor support position. Workers will assist qualified technicians and supervisors with dismantling support, material handling, equipment movement, packaging, housekeeping, and site clean-up.
This position does not include independent electrical work, electrical isolation, or activities requiring a licensed electrician or qualified electrical worker.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the decommissioning team with general site activities.
- Support the removal, handling, packaging, and movement of battery system components.
- Move tools, equipment, materials, pallets, packaging, and other items around the work area.
- Assist qualified personnel with dismantling activities as directed.
- Maintain good housekeeping and keep work areas clear of debris and trip hazards.
- Segregate removed materials into designated waste, recycling, reuse, or disposal areas.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment.
- Use basic hand tools where authorized and trained.
- Install temporary barriers, signage, cones, and exclusion zones as directed.
- Follow established procedures for handling battery-related materials.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow site safety procedures, Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), Secure Work Procedures, and supervisor instructions.
- Immediately report damaged batteries, leaks, unusual smells, smoke, excessive heat, damaged cables, or other unsafe conditions.
- Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Perform other general labour duties related to the decommissioning work as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Basic workplace safety training is required.
- Basic understanding of industrial or construction site safety.
- Ability to perform physical work for approximately 10-hour shifts.
- Ability to lift and handle materials safely within established site lifting limits.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Comfortable working in an industrial environment.
- Willing and able to work the full 11-day project schedule, potentially including Saturdays.
- Willingness to wear all required PPE.
- Previous construction, warehouse, industrial, electrical, mechanical, or general labour experience is an asset but not mandatory.
Basic Safety Training Candidates should have basic safety training or relevant experience covering:
- Workplace health and safety awareness.
- WHMIS or equivalent hazardous-material awareness.
- Proper use of PPE.
- Manual lifting and material-handling safety.
- Basic electrical hazard awareness.
- Emergency response and evacuation procedures.
- Recognition and reporting of unsafe conditions.
Additional project-specific safety training will be provided as required before work begins. Pre-Employment / Site Access Requirements
Successful candidates must complete applicable project and site-access requirements before starting work, including:
- Drug and alcohol testing in accordance with applicable employer/project policies and legal requirements.
- Site safety orientation.
- Verification of required basic safety training.
- WHMIS training, where required.
- Review of project-specific emergency procedures.
- Battery and electrical hazard awareness.
- Any additional training required by the site or client.
Pay: $17.60-$29.29 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 – 50.0 per week
