Companion Caregiver - Overview

Ruth Home Care is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and personable Companion Caregiver to provide companionship and supportive assistance to individuals in their homes. This role is focused on creating meaningful connections, providing friendly conversation, participating in enjoyable activities, and helping clients remain engaged and connected to their community.

The ideal candidate is warm, attentive, patient, reliable, and genuinely enjoys spending time with others. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors, adults with disabilities, and individuals who benefit from companionship and support at home.

Ruth Home Care is currently building its initial caregiver team to support current and upcoming client needs throughout Kingston and surrounding communities. Hours and assignments may vary depending on client needs and caregiver availability.

Responsibilities

- Provide friendly companionship through conversation, social interaction, and spending quality time with clients
- Participate in meaningful and enjoyable activities based on each client's interests and preferences
- Accompany clients on approved outings, appointments, recreational activities, walks, shopping trips, or community activities
- Encourage social engagement and help clients remain connected to their community and interests
- Prepare simple meals and assist with meal-related activities when included in the client's service plan
- Provide light housekeeping assistance, such as basic cleaning, tidying, and laundry, depending on the client's needs and approved services
- Help maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe home environment
- Follow the client's care plan and Ruth Home Care policies and procedures
- Communicate relevant concerns or changes to Ruth Home Care management




- Maintain accurate documentation as required
- Respect each client's privacy, dignity, independence, preferences, and home environment

This Companion Caregiver role does not include bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, or other personal-care services. Personal-care services are provided by appropriately qualified PSWs where included in the client's care plan.

Qualifications

- Previous experience providing companionship, caregiving, senior support, disability support, or working with individuals in a home or community setting is an asset
- Warm, compassionate, patient, and respectful personality
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Genuine interest in building positive relationships with clients
- Reliable, dependable, and punctual
- Comfortable engaging clients in conversation and meaningful activities
- Ability to work independently while following care plans and company procedures
- Comfortable performing light housekeeping and laundry tasks
- Ability to accompany clients on outings and community activities
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to client homes throughout Kingston and surrounding communities
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory police/background screening appropriate to the position
- Current First Aid/CPR certification is an asset
