Vision of Hope Resource Centre (VOHRC) is seeking a passionate and energetic Community Youth Engagement Animator to inspire and connect with Black children and youth ages 6–18+ in our community. This role is vital in creating culturally grounded, inclusive programs that foster belonging, confidence, and leadership among youth. The ideal candidate will be a agile communicator with genuine enthusiasm for working with children and teenagers, dedicated to making a meaningful difference through mentorship and culturally responsive engagement.
This position is being filled as a male-identified role model, in accordance with Ontario Human Rights Code special program provisions, to meet the specific mentorship needs of the youth served by this program. This paid, part-time position (14 hours/week) offers a rewarding opportunity to lead impactful initiatives that empower Black youth and strengthen community bonds.
Duties
- Facilitate weekly programming, workshops, and community events for Black youth ages 6–12 and 13–18+
- Build strong, trusting relationships with youth and families through culturally grounded, anti-oppressive practices
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (social workers, educators, mental health staff, community partners)
to provide holistic support
- Support youth leadership development, life-skills activities, and culturally relevant creative projects
- Assist with program planning, outreach, registration, and documentation
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for all participants
- Gather feedback and contribute to program improvements based on youth needs and interests
Skills
- Experience working with children and youth in community, school, or recreation settings
- Strong understanding of the lived experiences of Black youth and commitment to culturally responsive, anti-racist, and trauma-informed approaches
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm for youth engagement
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Vulnerable Sector Screening required
