Edmonton Net Zero Hydrogen Energy Complex (ENZHEC) Project Site-Based | 10-16 Month Contract | Day Shift
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Piping Coordinator to join the Owner's Construction Management Team on the Edmonton Net Zero Hydrogen Energy Complex (ENZHEC) Project. This role will serve as the Owner's field representative and provide leadership, oversight, and coordination of all assigned piping construction and turnover activities.
This is a critical site-based leadership position responsible for ensuring contractor execution meets project safety, quality, schedule, cost, and commissioning objectives. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving construction completion, system turnover, and commissioning readiness for one of Canada's most significant energy transition projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Owner's representative for assigned piping construction and commissioning activities.
- Lead and oversee contractor execution of piping installation, welding, NDE, hydrotesting, tie-ins, reinstatement, mechanical completion, turnover, and commissioning support activities.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, drawings, standards, and applicable codes.
- Review and approve contractor work plans, construction methodologies, sequencing plans, permits, and recovery strategies.
- Coordinate work activities between piping, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, commissioning, operations, and turnover teams.
- Monitor contractor productivity, staffing levels, work quality, and schedule performance, implementing corrective actions as required.
- Review and validate daily labour, equipment, materials, and progress reports.
- Manage Construction Hazard Work Permits and verify work readiness before authorization.
- Identify and mitigate construction risks while resolving field execution challenges.
- Lead construction readiness reviews, mechanical completion assessments, turnover evaluations, and punch-list prioritization.
- Support commissioning and operational readiness activities to achieve project milestones.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and construction excellence.
- Exercise authority to stop, redirect, or reprioritize work when safety, quality, or schedule concerns arise.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive industrial construction experience with significant piping construction leadership responsibility.
- Proven experience leading contractor execution on large industrial, petrochemical, hydrogen, oil & gas, energy, or major capital projects.
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, welding processes, NDE, pressure testing, construction sequencing, quality requirements, and turnover processes.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, P&IDs;, isometrics, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound field decisions related to construction execution, work prioritization, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Owner's Representative or member of an Owner's Construction Management Team on a major capital project.
- Experience overseeing contractor performance, construction planning, execution strategies, and recovery planning.
- Proven success coordinating multi-discipline interfaces across large contractor workforces.
- Experience driving contractor performance improvements and resolving complex field execution challenges.
- Robust background supporting mechanical completion, turnover, commissioning, and startup activities.
