Job Summary
Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Supervisor will provide day-to-day field leadership for construction activities across the site. The successful candidate will coordinate contractors, employees, specialized trades, and service providers to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, within budget, and in accordance with approved schedules, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
This is a hands-on, site-based leadership position requiring a strong field presence, sound construction judgement, and the ability to identify constraints, resolve issues, and maintain productive working relationships with contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
This is a site-based leadership role supporting the development and operational requirements of the project.
The schedule for this position is 4 days on / 3 days off. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Safety and Field Leadership
· Provide visible, day-to-day leadership for all assigned construction activities.
· Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure employees, contractors, and visitors comply with site health, safety, environment, and community requirements.
· Lead or participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, field-level risk assessments, workplace inspections, and incident-prevention activities.
· Confirm that required permits, procedures, hazard controls, competencies, and personal protective equipment are in place before work begins.
· Monitor field conditions and intervene when work is unsafe, non-compliant, or inconsistent with approved plans.
· Support contractor mobilization, site orientation, onboarding, temporary facilities, and work-area setup.
Construction Execution
· Plan, schedule, direct, and coordinate daily work undertaken by construction contractors, specialized trades, and subcontractors.
· Establish clear daily and weekly priorities aligned with the overall project execution plan.
· Confirm that current drawings, specifications, work packages, materials, equipment, tools, and labour are available to support planned work.
· Monitor construction progress, productivity, quality, and conformance with design requirements.
· Coordinate access, interfaces, work fronts, shutdown requirements,
and shared resources across contractors and site departments.
· Identify field constraints, emerging risks, and potential delays, and coordinate timely corrective action.
· Participate in constructability reviews and provide practical field input into engineering designs and execution plans.
· Support inspections, testing, deficiency management, system turnover, and construction closeout.
· Facilitate field instruction discussions and ensure changes are appropriately documented and authorized.
Contractor Coordination and Performance
· Act as the primary day-to-day field contact for assigned contractors.
· Communicate scope, schedule, safety, quality, and performance expectations clearly.
· Monitor contractor compliance with contractual requirements, approved work methods, and site standards.
· Review contractor daily reports, progress measurements, quantities, and supporting documentation.
· Verify completed work and quantities to support assessment of contractor progress claims.
· Participate in contractor performance meetings and help resolve field, commercial, engineering, and scheduling issues.
· Escalate material deviations, unresolved constraints, scope changes, and performance concerns to project leadership.
Cost, Schedule, and Reporting
· Track daily and weekly progress against approved construction schedules and milestones.
· Work closely with Project Controls and Commercial teams to support schedule updates, cost forecasting, quantity tracking, and change management.
· Monitor labour, equipment, and material utilization and identify opportunities to improve productivity and control costs.
· Coordinate material requirements, delivery timing, laydown, storage, and availability at the work front.
· Maintain accurate daily construction records, including activities completed, workforce levels, equipment usage, delays, safety observations,
and field issues.
· Prepare concise construction status updates for the Project Director and senior management.
· Support recovery planning when activities fall behind schedule or deviate from budget.
· Contribute to the development, scoping, and administration of field construction and bulk-material erection contracts.
Requirements & Skills
· Trade certification, construction technology diploma, civil engineering technology diploma, or another relevant technical qualification.
· Approximately 5 to 10 years of progressive construction experience, preferably in mining, heavy industrial, infrastructure, civil, mechanical, or multidisciplinary project environments.
· At least 3 years of experience in a construction leadership or supervisory role.
· Demonstrated experience coordinating contractors and supervising multiple trades in an active construction setting.
· Practical knowledge of safe work planning, permit-to-work systems, construction sequencing, quality control, and field documentation.
· Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, work packages, and contractor submissions.
· Familiarity with progress measurement, quantity verification, cost control, change management, and contractor claims is an asset.
· Previous experience on a mining project or at an operating industrial site is preferred
