The salary range for this position is CAD $52.25 - $65.27 / hour
Detailed Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Operations, the Coordinator provides a key leadership role in planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of clinical assessment and treatment. Functions as a resource and provides guidance, research, and educational support to Mental Health & Substance Use service providers and managers. As a member of the Developmental Disabilities Mental Health Services Team, the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and directing program development and clinical support.
The Coordinator is also responsible for the daily operations of the team, including the supervision of designated staff and performing related administrative duties, and provides clinical care to adults with psychiatric issues.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of the Developmental Disabilities Services team by performing duties such as establishing priorities, coordinating work assignments, ensuring adequate staff, and completing schedules to meet operational requirements and standards; monitoring and evaluating outcomes of therapeutic services; and providing a forum for staff communication and problem solving through staff meetings. Provides guidance, facilitates workplace solutions; ensures necessary resources are available or accessible, and delivers related training and orientation requirements to ensure effective client centered care.
- Provides leadership to mental health and addictions staff in ensuring the concepts important to our services by performing duties such as guiding the development, implementation and revision of new and existing psychiatric and behavioral services.
- Partners with communities in the Fraser area under the scope of the Developmental Disabilities Mental Health services. Participates in coordination and implementation of psychiatric and behavioral services.
- Develops short and long range plans and objectives for Developmental Disabilities Mental Health Services that are consistent with the strategic direction of mental health services in Fraser Health.
- Supervises designated staff, conducts performance evaluations, discusses evaluations and clarifies performance expectations with staff, and refers disciplinary issues requiring formal written documentation to the Manager; participates in staff selection process; develops, recommends and/or implements appropriate staff development and retention plans,
and provides input regarding staff educational needs.
- Applies a Quality Improvement approach to psychiatric and behavioral services, ensuring attention to benchmarks, performance indicators, and research initiatives that build better clinical practices and are in keeping with Fraser Health and Provincial Mental Health frameworks.
- Maintains information systems and processes for the assigned areas; compiles, analyzes and prepares statistical reports to identify issues and trends affecting the provision of services within assigned areas. Maintains related reports, records, and statistical data, in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Acts as a clinical resource for members of the multidisciplinary team and students and promotes collaboration for treatment concerns, continuity of care, and resource coordination by methods such as assisting with clinical intervention and problem solving, providing clinical guidance and information on complex cases, discussing client care issues, and developing linkages/partnerships with other facilities, agencies, and community resources to best meet client need.
- Develops and maintains effective communication and working relationships and builds collaborative partnerships with clients and their families, and various health care providers and community resources; leads and participates in relevant departmental and inter-professional meetings, committees and work groups.
- Identifies staff training needs related to developmental disabilities clinical issues, and provides, where appropriate, relevant community and staff training / education and in-services. Promotes and provides opportunities for staff to develop professionally, through means such as organizing in-house educational programs and maintaining a positive work setting.
- Liaises with other hospital and community health care professionals, physicians and families, as required. Liaises with collateral agencies in the planning and implementation of services. Liaises with appropriate health and community resources, in order to discuss client referrals,
and to provide the relevant information to facilitate service linkages regarding client care.
- Participates, as a member of the interdisciplinary team, in intake screening process and assignment of cases, the achievement of client care goals and in the development of a comprehensive plan of care with/for the client.
- Provides direct clinical care through the formulation of a psychosocial assessment and treatment plan by gathering and reviewing client referral information with respect to social, emotional, cultural and environmental situation, and by utilizing a variety of treatment modalities to provide treatment; documents care plan in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Manages waitlists, triage and timely assignments of new and urgent referrals.
- Performs other professionally related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and ExperienceMaster's degree in behavioral /social sciences or a relevant allied health discipline. Five (5) years clinical mental health experience, including 2 years' recent developmental disabilities experience and 1 year of recent supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership. Possesses excellent knowledge of current practices in developmental disabilities mental health and behavioral.
- Demonstrated analytical, research and conceptual skills; able to research, prepare and effectively implement educational presentations;
- Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise and direct workload to project teams and staff; and to operate effectively within a team and client-focused environment;
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with health practitioners, clients, family members, community resource agencies and the public both one-on-one and in groups;
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to make presentations;
- Demonstrated ability to be self-directed in organizing and prioritizing work;
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to adjust to new or unexpected events;
- Demonstrated ability to operate and effectively utilize related equipment;
- Basic computer literacy to operate an electronic client care information system and general office applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, internet and email.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
