We are a well established structural and miscellaneous steel fabricator located in Surrey, British Columbia. We provide our customers with the structural and miscellaneous steel for various projects in Canada and the United States, including British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum 2 years of structural steel experience.

Position Overview

AI Industries is seeking an experienced and highly organized Detail Parts / Small Parts Manager to oversee the production, tracking, storage, racking, and expediting of detail and small parts across our three-shift structural steel fabrication operation.

This is a hands-on shop-floor management position focused on ensuring that all required detail parts are produced, accounted for, organized, and delivered to the appropriate work area just in time to marry up with the main structural members before work is assigned to a steel fabricator.

The successful candidate will understand structural steel fabrication, be comfortable reading shop drawings, and have strong computer and organizational skills. A major focus of this role will be developing and maintaining systems that improve material flow and reduce the amount of time fabricators spend locating or waiting for parts.

Key Responsibilities

· Manage the production and flow of all detail and small parts across three production shifts.





· Coordinate with production management to understand upcoming fabrication priorities and required sequencing.

· Ensure detail parts are produced in the correct quantities and in sufficient time to support the fabrication schedule.

· Utilize AI Industries' existing production software to track the status of detail parts from production through fabrication**.

· Develop and maintain an effective system for racking, identifying, sorting, and storing small parts.

· Develop a just-in-time expediting system that ensures all required detail parts are brought together with the appropriate main members before the work is released to a steel fabricator.

· Review structural steel shop drawings and bills of material to identify required detail parts and understand how they relate to main members and assemblies.

· Monitor outstanding or missing parts and proactively expedite them before they impact production.

· Maintain accurate visibility of what has been produced, what remains outstanding, where parts are located, and which fabrication assemblies they are assigned to.

· Coordinate between burning/cutting, drilling, material handling, fitting, welding, and other production areas as required.

· Identify bottlenecks and recurring issues within the small-parts process and implement improvements.

· Work closely with supervisors and production management across all three shifts to ensure consistent processes and proper handoffs between shifts.

· Establish clear accountability and procedures for the movement and storage of detail parts.

· Maintain an organized, efficient, and safe small-parts storage and staging area.





· Help develop measurable KPIs for small-parts production, shortages, turnaround times, and on-time availability.

Qualifications

· Structural steel fabrication experience is required.

· Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and shop workflow.

· Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings.

· Understanding of detail parts, assemblies, main members, bills of material, and fabrication sequencing.

· Strong organizational and material-management skills.

· Excellent computer skills and the ability to effectively utilize production tracking and fabrication software.

· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage many parts across multiple projects simultaneously.

· Ability to prioritize work based on changing shop and project requirements.

· Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with employees and supervisors across multiple shifts.

· Proactive problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify potential production issues before they affect the fabrication floor.

· Previous supervisory, production coordination, material management, or expediting experience within a structural steel fabrication facility is an asset.

What Success Looks Like The primary measure of success in this position is simple:

· When a main member is released to a steel fabricator, every required detail part should already be produced, identified, accounted for, and staged with that member.

· The goal is to eliminate unnecessary searching, waiting, shortages, and interruptions at the fabrication station while improving overall shop productivity and throughput.
