Role Description The Development Planner is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Calgary Metropolitan Area. This position is responsible for reviewing and processing development applications, subdivision proposals, and land use amendments to ensure alignment with County plans, bylaws, and policies. The role involves analyzing planning and development issues, preparing reports and recommendations, and presenting findings to internal teams, committees, and Council as required.

The Development

Planner collaborates with residents, developers, businesses, and other stakeholders through meetings, consultations, and public engagement processes. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting statutory plans and regulations,



conducting site and impact assessments, coordinating with other departments and external agencies, and supporting long-range planning initiatives that promote sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of Development Planning and Land Use Planning, with experience assessing applications and preparing planning reports.
- Understanding of Regional Planning and Land Use principles, including growth management and coordination across jurisdictions.
- Background in Environmental Planning and land use considerations that support sustainable and responsible development.
- Post-secondary education in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a related field; membership or eligibility for membership in a professional planning association (e.g., CIP, APPI) is an asset.
- Ability to interpret and apply planning legislation, policies, bylaws, and technical documents, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting complex information to non-specialist audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders, manage multiple files, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced municipal environment.
- Proficiency with standard office software; experience with GIS or planning-related tools is considered an asset.
