About the Opportunity

You’ve owned the projects, the results, the day-to day, but what would it look like to have a real seat at the table? To work directly in partnership with a VP to create your vision of a successful underground civils group for a business already building major projects across the Canadian infrastructure landscape. This opportunity is just that.

Our partner is an established national builder that saw underground civils shift from scopes of work into a specialist business line of its own, and set up a dedicated group to own it. The group has real projects on the board and momentum behind them. The technical credibility and capabilities are already there.

What it needs now is someone to scale it. The work is deliberately varied. Sub-grade civil and tunnelling across municipal, transit, and energy infrastructure, in multiple regions across Canada. You would be building on a very established wider business.

You would assume responsibility for the bigger picture. The P&L;, the pursuit strategy, the growth targets, the hiring, and the direction this group takes over the years to come – all yours to define and mold as you feel it would best serve the business, your clients, and the industry. About You

- You can carry a business unit, not just a project budget.



You have been accountable for the whole picture – forecasting, resourcing, margin, overhead, and the calls that decide whether a year lands well or poorly
- Underground is where you are strongest. You don’t need to know it all, but you have lived in that work long enough to know what the success factors and the risk actually sit
- You win work as well as deliver it. You are comfortable on the pursuit side: reading a client, shaping a bid, deciding what to chase and, more usefully, what to walk away from
- You have delivered through partnerships. Joint ventures and consortium structures are normal to you, including the diplomacy required when the partner is also a competitor
- You build teams that outlast the project. You are a talent magnet because you lead with a plan and invest in people. You enable greatness and love seeing others succeed
- You have an entrepreneurial streak that has never been fully used. You have opinions about how a business unit should be built and you have been waiting for a platform to prove them

About the Job

- You own the business unit. Strategy, P&L;, growth targets, and the vision for how the group delivers. The VP is a partner in that, not a filter you work through
- The platform is already built. An established national builder with multiple operating divisions,



decades of underground delivery behind it, and the balance sheet to back the group's ambitions. You are not starting from a standing position
- They are selective about what they pursue. That discipline is deliberate, and it means your energy goes into work that fits the group rather than into defending margin on work that never should have been bid
- The variety is real. Complex infrastructure that spans sectors and regions
- The results are visibly yours. In a group this size, the difference a leader makes shows up in the numbers and in the market within a year or two, not a decade
- There is room to grow it in your own image. The mandate is expansion, and how that expansion looks is largely a question you get to answer
