Excavator Operator – Construction & Excavation

Position: Excavator Operator
Employment: Full-Time | Permanent
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift | Some Saturdays as Required

We are looking for an experienced, reliable, and safety-focused Excavator Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will operate excavators safely and efficiently while supporting a variety of construction, excavation, roadwork, and site-development projects.

What You’ll Do
- Safely operate excavators and related attachments on construction sites
- Perform excavation, trenching, digging, grading, backfilling, and site preparation
- Excavate for foundations, sidewalks, curbs, roads, drainage systems, culverts, and utilities
- Load trucks and move soil, gravel, sand, and other materials
- Perform rough and finish grading as required
- Maintain proper grades, elevations, slopes, and drainage
- Operate attachments such as buckets, hydraulic breakers, augers, and other equipment as required
- Assist with installation of culverts, drainage systems, pipes, and other underground infrastructure
- Work around underground utilities and follow proper safety procedures
- Assist with road construction, aggregate placement, and site development
- Work closely with labourers, truck drivers, supervisors, and other equipment operators
- Complete daily equipment inspections and report mechanical issues
- Maintain clean and safe equipment and work areas
- Follow project plans, site instructions, and supervisor directions
- Follow all company safety policies and construction-site safety procedures
- Work safely around workers, vehicles, and other heavy equipment
What You Bring
- Previous excavator operating experience preferred
- Experience operating excavators in construction and excavation environments
- Ability to safely operate equipment in tight and active job sites
- Knowledge of excavation, trenching, grading, and backfilling
- Ability to read basic grades, elevations, and site plans is an asset
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Safety-focused attitude
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently
- Valid driver's licence is an asset
Additional Assets
- Experience with road construction and maintenance
- Experience with culvert installation
- Experience with drainage and underground utilities
- Experience with concrete site preparation
- Experience with landscaping and grading
- Experience operating loaders, skid steers, or other heavy equipment
- Basic mechanical knowledge
- Experience using a laser level or GPS machine-control systems
- First Aid certification
- Construction safety training
