Understanding Aging is a new international initiative founded by Dr Shara Cohen, PhD, BEM, an award-winning scientist, entrepreneur, and founder of multiple successful health and science-focused organisations.

Dr Cohen was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) by His Majesty The King for services to women in STEM and to cancer patients and their families. With a career spanning scientific research, healthcare education, community development, and international leadership, she has built and scaled multiple organisations that have delivered meaningful impact across healthcare and science communities.

Understanding Aging represents the next stage of this work.

As populations around the world live longer, there is increasing demand for trusted, evidence-informed information, resources, services, technologies, and partnerships that support people to age well. Understanding Aging has been created to become a leading platform bringing together experts, organisations, innovators, researchers, healthcare professionals, businesses, and individuals interested in the science, practice, and future of aging.

We are now seeking a small number of Founding Advisory Board Members to help shape the strategic direction, growth, visibility, partnerships, and long-term sustainability of this exciting new initiative.

This is an opportunity to become involved at the earliest stage of development and help influence the future direction of a project with significant international potential.

Understanding Aging aims to

- Improve public understanding of aging and longevity
- Promote evidence-based approaches to healthy aging
- Showcase innovations, technologies, products, and services that support aging populations
- Create educational resources and events
- Foster collaboration between healthcare, academia, industry, policymakers, and communities
- Support individuals, families, caregivers, and professionals navigating the challenges and opportunities associated with aging

The Role of Founding Advisory Board Members Founding Advisory Board Members will contribute through:

- Strategic guidance and advice
- Industry insights and expertise
- Introductions to potential partners and collaborators
- Visibility and advocacy
- Speaking opportunities and thought leadership
- Supporting the long-term growth and sustainability of the initiative

This is a non-executive advisory position.

Board members will be invited to participate in periodic online advisory discussions and contribute their expertise to the development of the organisation.

Annual Founding Advisory Board Contribution To confirm a place on the Founding Advisory Board, members are asked to make an annual contribution of: £2,500 per year (minimum)

This contribution helps support the development of the platform, infrastructure, content creation, events, outreach activities, and future growth of the organisation.

Many board members choose to contribute at a higher level to further accelerate the initiative's impact and reach.
