Position Summary The Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy Specialist provide strategic leadership, consultation and educational development to advance Indigenous education, reconciliation and decolonizing practices across Confederation College. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Indigenous Studies, the incumbent leads and supports the implementation of the college’s Indigenous Learning Outcomes ( ILO ) Implementation Plan, contributes to the indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan ( IRAP ) and advances the Negahneewin Vision through collaborative partnerships with academic schools, service areas, Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers and institutional leaders.

The incumbent provides expert consultation on curriculum development, education practices, Indigenous pedagogies, faculty development, resource development and institutional change initiatives that strengthen Indigenous inclusion and student success. The role collaborates closely with Institutional research, Quality Assurance, the Centre for Teaching and Learning, Academic Schools, Negahneewin and community partners to support continuous improvement, accountability and implementation of institutional priorities related to Indigenous education. The role provides strategic leadership for the implementation, continuous improvement, and institutional evaluation of the College’s Indigenous Learning Outcomes ( ILO ) Implementation Plan.

Additional Requirements

Knowledge in curriculum development and faculty development.

Demonstrated ability to manage programming with proven vision and initiative grounded in Indigenous epistemologies.





Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to deal effectively with a diverse population.

Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate professional development activities is an asset.

Knowledge of Indigenous language is an asset.

Exceptional interpersonal communication and high levels of energy and empathy.

Ability to manage multiple projects.

Strong cooperative orientation: ability to work both independently and consultatively within a team.

Excellent oral and written communication skills including academic and professional writing experience.

Field(s) of Study

Minimum of a 4 year degree with a specialization in Indigenous Education with demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous pedagogies and curriculum development.

Candidates who do not meet the western education qualification, may submit a detailed summary of their Indigenous/Cultural knowledge for consideration.

Experience

Typical number of years of experience, in addition to the necessary education level, required to perform the responsibilities of the position

Minimum of three (3) years

Type of Experience

Minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in Indigenous curriculum development, educational development, faculty development, post-secondary teaching, strategic planning, reconciliation implementation or institutional change initiatives.

Significant experience living and/or working with Indigenous communities and diverse communities and stakeholders including Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members and well-versed in protocol matters related to Indigenous (Aboriginal) relationships is essential.

Demonstrated experience in educational program planning, facilitation, and consultation is preferred.

Experience in the field of educational development with a post-secondary teaching and learning centre is an asset.

Research and teaching experience at a post-secondary level is an asset.
