Industry Guest Speaker – High School Career & Experiential Learning ProgramsPosition Summary
We are looking for experienced professionals from a wide range of industries, careers, and fields to speak with high school students and provide real-world insight into different career paths.
Guest Speakers will participate in school presentations, career-focused workshops, panels, and occasional field trips throughout the Greater Toronto Area. The goal is to give students an authentic understanding of what different careers and industries are really like — including the opportunities, challenges, education pathways, skills required, and lessons learned along the way.
This is an ideal opportunity for professionals who enjoy sharing their experience, connecting with young people, and helping students better understand the possibilities available to them after high school.
What You’ll Do
- Speak to high school students about your profession, industry, and career journey.
- Share your personal experiences, including how you entered your field and what your career path has looked like.
- Explain what a typical day or week in your profession may involve.
- Discuss the skills, education, training, certifications, or experience commonly required in your field.
- Share both the opportunities and realities of working within your industry.
- Answer student questions in an open, approachable, and age-appropriate way.
- Participate in career panels, classroom discussions, workshops, or field trips when applicable.
- Help students understand different career options and pathways they may not have previously considered.
- Create an engaging and positive experience that encourages students to explore their interests and future opportunities.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Approachable, engaging,
and willing to answer student questions.
- Ability to explain professional concepts in a way that is easy for students to understand.
- Passion for sharing knowledge and supporting youth career exploration.
- Reliable, skilled, and punctual.
- Previous public speaking, mentoring, coaching, training, or youth experience is considered an asset but is not required.
Time Commitment Most speaking engagements or field trip sessions require approximately 1–2 hours of your time.
This is a flexible, casual opportunity rather than a fixed weekly schedule. Engagements are scheduled based on school and program demand, and the frequency of opportunities may vary throughout the year. c
You will be contacted in advance and can accept opportunities based on your availability.
Why Get Involved?
Your career experience can provide students with something they cannot always get from a textbook — a real perspective from someone who has actually worked in the field.
Whether your career path was traditional, unconventional, challenging, or completely unexpected, your story can help students better understand their options and make more informed decisions about their future.
One conversation can introduce a student to a career they never knew existed, change the way they think about their future, or give them the confidence to pursue an opportunity they had never considered. If you are passionate about your field and willing to share your experience, we would love to have you become part of our network of industry speakers.
