Nature of the Work & Responsibilities
NATURE OF THE WORK:
The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in performing technical duties related to network, computer and peripherals, and providing technical support to users.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in the overall IT support of the Dawson community
- Assist in configuration, maintaining and troubleshooting of workstations and virtual desktops (VDI).
- Maintain and upgrade software in labs and faculty offices.
- Perform basic troubleshooting (first-tier support or ‘level 1’) on the College supported applications, including
- Microsoft 365 and the Office suite
- Create and post notices for labs when needed, outlining new procedures and status updates.
- Participate in the daily operation of the labs and maintain all equipment (computers, printers, scanners, audio/visual and other equipment in good working order), troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve routine problems, repair where possible; place service calls when required.
- Diagnose computer hardware and software problems, employing various utilities, where applicable, please service calls where necessary.
- Follow approved IST procedures for IT Support delivery.
- Perform other duties as required by the IT Support manager.
Qualifications & Conditions
QUALIFICATIONS:
To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
CONDITIONS:
- Proven knowledge of Windows 11 operating systems, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Office,
and MEMCM (Microsoft Endpoint Manager Configuration Manager)
- Proven ability to troubleshoot computer-related software and hardware
- Advanced English communication skills and basic conversational French skills (testing may be required)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to organize work and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in a team and autonomously
