Local company (family-owned) is a growing waste management company specializing in roll-off bins for residential construction, renovations, and demolition projects. We are looking for a highly competent, dependable, hands-on truck driver to join our team.
This is not just a driving job.
We are looking for someone who knows their way around a truck, takes pride in equipment, can troubleshoot problems in the field, and has the ability to become a leader and train other drivers.
If you are the person everyone calls when a truck or piece of equipment isn't working properly, this could be a great fit.
The Role
As a Lead Hooklift/Roll-Off Driver, you will operate our hooklift trucks throughout Calgary and surrounding areas, delivering and picking up bins while making sure our equipment is kept in excellent working condition.
You will be expected to:
- Safely operate hooklift/roll-off trucks
- Deliver, pick up, and exchange bins at residential construction and renovation sites
- Inspect your truck and hooklift equipment before and after shifts
- Know your truck from head to toe
- Perform daily fluid, tire, brake, lighting, hydraulic, and equipment checks
- Grease and lubricate trucks and hooklift systems as required

- Troubleshoot equipment issues in the field
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments on trucks and hooklift systems
- Communicate clearly when a repair or maintenance issue requires a mechanic
- Keep trucks clean, organized, and properly maintained
- Complete required inspection and maintenance documentation
- Work safely around construction sites, homes, vehicles, and pedestrians
- Help train and mentor new drivers once fully established in the role
- Set the standard for safe driving, equipment care, customer service, and work ethic

- Has experience with hooklift, roll-off, or similar equipment
- Is mechanically inclined and comfortable working around trucks
- Can identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical and hydraulic problems
- Is comfortable greasing and performing preventative maintenance
- Understands how trucks and hydraulic equipment work
- Can perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Is comfortable working independently without constant supervision
- Has strong problem-solving skills
- Is reliable and shows up when expected
- Takes ownership of their equipment and responsibilities
- Is trustworthy and understands that our trucks and customers' property must be treated with care
- Has great communication skills!!!
- Is organized and pays attention to detail!!!
- Can remain calm and figure things out when something doesn't go according to plan
- Has the personality and ability to train other drivers and lead by example
The Person We're Looking For You should be the type of person who:
Sees a problem → figures out what is wrong → determines what can be fixed → fixes it if possible → communicates the issue → gets the job done.
We don't want someone who immediately says, “The truck isn't working.”
We want someone who says, “Here's what it's doing, here's what I checked, here's what I think is wrong, and here's what we need to do.”
Requirements
- Valid Alberta driver's licence (Class 5 / 3 / or 1)
- Clean and responsible driving record
- Previous commercial truck driving experience (is very helpful but can be trained)
- Hooklift/roll-off experience strongly preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to perform physical work
- Ability to work independently
- Solid safety awareness
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Ability to communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and management
Compensation $26–$31/hour, depending on experience, mechanical ability, equipment experience, and overall competency.
