Role Description<

The Metal Recycling Lead Hand / Yard Supervisor is a full-time, in office role based in Genelle, BC. This position oversees daily yard operations, including organizing metal materials, directing loading and unloading activities, and ensuring safe use of equipment such as forklifts, loaders, and cutting tools. The role includes supervising yard team members, assigning tasks, training staff on safety procedures, and monitoring performance to maintain productivity and quality standards.

The supervisor coordinates incoming and outgoing loads, tracks inventory, and communicates with dispatch, project managers,



and drivers to ensure accurate documentation and efficient workflow. The role also involves enforcing health, safety, and environmental regulations, conducting inspections, reporting hazards, and supporting continuous improvement in yard layout and processes.

Qualifications

- Experience in metal recycling, scrap yard or industrial yard operations, including material sorting, handling, and inventory control.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment commonly used in yards (e.g., forklifts, loaders, skid steers, cranes) with valid certifications where required.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in supervising crews, assigning work, training team members, and promoting a respectful, inclusive work environment.
- Strong health, safety, and environmental awareness, including knowledge of WHMIS, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout, and safe work procedures.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, shipping documents, and basic site plans; solid organizational and time-management skills.
- Basic computer and mobile device skills for logging data, completing reports, and communicating with project and office teams.
- Physically able to work outdoors in varying weather, perform manual handling tasks, and stand or move for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the Genelle, BC site.
- Previous experience in demolition, waste management, or related heavy industry is an asset
