HV Logic Ltd. is an Alberta-based High Voltage Electrical Engineering company that specializes in digital equipment in the power industry. Professional services include project consulting and management, substation electrical and relay settings design, automation logic, SCADA programming, network design and configuration, cyber security assessment, and planning. HV Logic Ltd. has experience delivering results for a wide range of clients in the electric utilities, oil and gas, and renewables sectors in Alberta.

To support the growth of the company, HV Logic Ltd. is currently looking for an P&C; Field Engineer/Technologist that is willing to learn or expand on specialized skills that are currently in high demand for the power industry. The successful candidate will be joining a small company with personnel having more than 30 years combined of industry experience.

Responsibilities

- Perform testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Protection & Control (P&C;) systems in high-voltage substations.
- Electrical design, field markups, equipment specifications, bill of materials
- Conduct relay testing using Omicron test equipment (CMC series) and associated software (Test Universe).
- Test and commission protective relays including SEL, ABB, GE, Siemens, Schneider, and other utility-grade devices.
- Perform end-to-end protection scheme testing (line, transformer, bus, feeder, breaker failure, etc.)
- Conduct secondary injection testing, functional testing, and verification of wiring and control circuits.
- Review and interpret protection settings, logic diagrams, single-line diagrams, and schematics.




- Develop protection coordination studies and relay settings for transmission and distribution systems (feeder, transformer, line, bus, breaker failure, etc.).
- Configure and validate settings for relays including SEL, ABB, GE, Siemens, and Schneider.
- Develop protection logic, interlocking schemes, and control philosophies.
- Review and interpret single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection schematics, and logic diagrams.
- Prepare commissioning procedures and detailed test plans.
- Support SCADA integration and verification of relay communications (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850).
- Assist with commissioning documentation, reports, and field markups/redlines.
- Troubleshoot protection, control, and communication issues in energized environments.
- Can travel to project sites throughout Canada and USA
- Up to 70% Field Work Combined with Office Work

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in electrical/computer engineering or Diploma in Electronics Technologist.
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer/Technologist with APEGGA/ASET and other provincial associations as required.
- Approaches work with an interest and desire to learn. Self-sufficient independent learner capable of executing tasks/projects independently.
- Experienced with computers, operating systems, cloud applications.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts.




- Competency in Windows operating system, software and basic programming /scripting concepts
- Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Advanced problem-solving skills.
- Aptitude towards fast moving modern technologies and customizing/applying them to real world applications.

Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:
- Minimum 2 years of field experience, comfortable in power and high voltage facility.
- Perform short circuit, coordination, and protection studies.
- Protocols such as SEL, DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, and OPC
- High voltage electrical experience for electric utilities, renewables and oil, and gas.
- Ethernet IP networks, and serial communication.
- Configuration of network switches, routers, firewalls, and gateways.
- Microsoft Excel including custom macros.
- Communication troubleshooting software such as WireShark.
- Network vulnerability testing tools such as Nmap port scans.

Compensation for this role will be based on the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and overall fit for the position.
