Grow Onwords Speech and Language Services
Location: The SPOT Pediatric Centre | Mount Pleasant, Vancouver, BC
Position: Independent Contractor | Part time
Compensation: $90 to $105/hour
Come Grow With Us
Grow Onwords Speech and Language Services is looking for a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team at our brand-new home, The SPOT Pediatric Centre in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver.
We are a small, values-first SLP practice that believes children learn and communicate best when they feel safe, connected, understood, and free to be themselves. Our approach is child-led, play-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and family-centred, with evidence-based therapy built around each child’s individual strengths, interests, communication style, and goals.
We’re looking for an SLP who shares these values and is excited to build a caseload within a supportive pediatric environment.
About Our New Space
Grow Onwords recently moved into The SPOT Pediatric Centre, a purpose-built pediatric therapy space created collaboratively by Grow Onwords Speech and Language Services and Rising Steps Pediatric Therapy (an occupational therapy practice).
As a Grow Onwords SLP, you’ll have access to your own private therapy room, as well as shared spaces designed to make therapy active, flexible, and fun, including:
- A well-equipped sensory gym
- A pretend play room
- A quiet sensory room
- An outdoor play space
- Interactive shared therapy spaces including a lego wall!
We created a space where therapy can follow the child — whether that means sitting together in a quiet room, playing on the floor, swinging in the gym, or exploring outside. Children can move, play, regulate, connect, and communicate in the ways that work best for them.
Who We’re Looking For
You may be a outstanding fit if you:
- Are a registered Speech-Language Pathologist in British Columbia, or are eligible for registration
- Enjoy working with children and their families
- Value child-led and play-based therapy
- Practice from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective
- Prioritize connection and trust as part of the therapeutic process
- Are comfortable adapting sessions to each child’s interests, communication style, and regulation needs
- Value collaboration with families and other professionals
- Are reliable,
organized, communicative, and comfortable working independently
- Are interested in growing a consistent pediatric caseload
- Have an interest in using sensory strategies to support children’s regulation, engagement, and participation — prior experience is an asset, but a willingness to learn and incorporate these strategies into your SLP practice is more important
Experience working with autistic children, gestalt language processing, AAC users, speech sound difficulties, literacy skills for school-aged children and/or early language development is an asset, but we also welcome SLPs who are eager to continue learning in these areas. We value a willingness to learn just as much as previous experience. We are looking for clinicians who are curious, reflective, open to learning together, and excited to continue developing their clinical skills.
Clinical autonomy, without working in isolation. Manage your caseload and clinical work independently, with a practising SLP available for consultation, mentorship, report review, and support when you need it.
What the Role Can Include
Depending on your interests and caseload, your work may include:
- Early language milestone assessments and intervention
- Speech sound assessment and intervention
- Supporting autistic children and other neurodivergent communicators
- Supporting AAC users
- Supporting children and youth who script (gestalt language processing)
- Supporting school-aged children to build their language and literacy skills
- Parent/caregiver coaching
- Co-leading joint SLP and OT groups
We encourage our SLPs to develop caseloads that reflect their own clinical interests and areas of strength.
What Grow Onwords Provides
As an independent contractor, you can focus on your clinical work while we provide the infrastructure and support needed to build your caseload, including:
- An intentionally designed and fully furnished pediatric therapy environment
- Your own private therapy room
- Access to shared therapeutic spaces and equipment that encourage child-led play-based therapy
- Administrative and scheduling support
- Online booking and practice-management systems
- Access to toys, therapy materials, and resources
- Referrals to support caseload growth
- Opportunities for collaboration with other pediatric professionals
- Ongoing clinical support and mentorship from an experienced pediatric SLP
- Flexibility in building a schedule and caseload that works for you
- Opportunities for other paid clinical work beyond 1-on-1 therapy sessions
Schedule This is a part-time independent contractor position with the opportunity to grow your caseload over time.
Specific days and hours can be discussed based on your availability and the needs of the practice.
About Grow Onwords
Grow Onwords is a Vancouver-based pediatric speech-language pathology practice supporting children and families through individualized, evidence-based care.
We believe meaningful communication grows through connection, play, trust, and relationships. Rather than expecting children to fit into one way of learning or communicating, we aim to meet each child where they are and build therapy around who they are.
We care deeply about creating an environment where children feel understood, families feel supported, and clinicians have the flexibility, resources, and support to do thoughtful and meaningful work.
