Privacy & Access Specialist
Job ID: 6728 Location: Burnaby, BC Salary: $73,747 - $86,761 Annually Position Summary: The Privacy and Access Specialist reports to the Director of Privacy & Information Services and manages sensitive and complex information access requests including eDiscovery and Restricted FOI requests. The role supports the Privacy and Access program, completes privacy impact assessments, advises on complex and sensitive information access and privacy matters, responds to privacy breaches for the Commission, develops and delivers training and awareness activities, and creates internal policies, reports, and presentations.
Candidate
Profile The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: Education &
Experience Diploma in Privacy, Information Management, Legal Administration, Public Administration, or other relevant discipline. Sound experience in managing FOI requests, including eDiscovery best practices, interpreting and applying legislation, administering information access requests, managing caseloads, and working in a high‑volume client service‑centric environment. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer.
Criminal Record
Check required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Sound knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, restricted FOIs, eDiscovery practices, and tools. Technical knowledge including relevant IT Security and troubleshooting ability.
Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, problem‑solving, and consensus‑building. Ability to learn, understand the Commission’s policies, processes, and business operations, interpret legislation, and apply knowledge in decision‑making. Ability to strategize and share expertise on eDiscovery tools and platforms.
Clear communication in written and spoken forms, especially when handling complex and sensitive information. Ability to analyze large amounts of information, resolve issues, and make effective decisions in a results‑oriented environment. Maintain confidentiality, use diplomacy and tact in dealing with confidential matters.
Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple issues and projects simultaneously. Demonstrate patience, respect, and negotiation skills when interacting with members of the public from diverse backgrounds. Work independently and in a team environment.
